      Pg.357: LEVI McCAIN, of Moline, was born in Henderson Co., KY., Oct. 11, 1812, and was the youngest and now the only one living of six sons of James and Eleanor (Boyd) McCain. ... to Moline in 1845 ... He has been thrice married, first in 1832, in Henderson Co., KY., to Elizabeth Johnson, who died in Southern Indiana in 1844. Of the six children she bore, four lived to survive for a time, but at this writing (June, 1885) they have all joined her in the spirit land. Secondly, in Posey Co., Ind., in 1844, to Elizabeth Williams, who died in Moline in 1866; and thirdly, at the last named place, Dec. 10, 1869, to Mrs. Harriet Foster, a lady who had been twice a widow. Her maiden name was Stroud, and her first husband's name was John Duncan. To him she bore four children: Joseph A., of Henderson, Ky.; Mary J., wife of Robert Shaw, of Davenport, Iowa, and Sarah E. and Amanda E., deceased. Mrs. McCain has six grandchildren, namely, Hattie and John, who are the children of Joseph A. Duncan and reside with their parents in Henderson, Ky., and four children of Mrs. Mary Shaw, - Eva, Joseph, Robert and Mary J. Mrs. McC. in her young days was a pioneer teacher in Southern Illinois. Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. McCain's only daughter, Mary Elizabeth, became the wife of George W. Heck, of Moline, and died March 28, 1864. They had three children ... The last child and son of Mr. McCain, John, became a soldier in the late war ...

      Pg.1224-1225: KANE, James D. - ... One of the men who has made his restaurant popular because of the quality of the food he serves is James D. Kane of Andalusa. For years he was an agriculturalist, but retired from the farm five years ago. ... in 1910 he opened up his present place. He was born in Bucks county, PA., November 1, 1856, a son of Jacob and Mattie (Duncan) Kane, the former born in Belfast, Ireland, May 3, 1832. His wife was also a native of the same city. They came to the United States the same year that James Buchanan was inaugurated its president, or in 1857. Location was made in Bucks county, Pa., and this remained the family home until 1872, when the father moved to a farm three miles west of Andalusia, Ill. Here he died January 25, 1909, while the mother passed away October 15, 1885. James D. Kane was their only child. ... He was married February 1, 1881, to Fannie E. Hill, born May 6, 1859, a daughter of James and Margaret (Richards) Hill, ...
      Pg.1225: KANE, John - Representative citizens of Rock Island ... retired from the activities of farm life ... One of these is John Kane of Andalusia, born in Bucks County, Pa., May 3, 1856, son of John and Jennie (Duncan) Kane, natives of Ireland, where the father was born in March, 1829, and the mother in 1825. They came to America in 1849, locating in Bucks county, Pa., and there they resided until 1856, when removal was made to Davenport, Ia. For a year they remained there, and then coming to Buffalo Prairie township, they spent four years within its confines. In 1862, the father enlisted for service during the Civil War, ... wounded, honorably discharged in 1865 and returned to Rock Island county in July of that year, died in 1900, the mother having passed away March 28, 1894. Two of their sons, James and John Kane, now reside in Rock Island county, the former born in Bucks county, Pa., November 1, 1852. ... John Kane ... married February 7, 1877, to Miss Eveline Shuck, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Chambers) Shuck. ...

      Pg.232: DUNCAN. Miss Elizabeth Evans was born October 4, 1838, near Logansport, Ind. Was married to John F. Duncan in 1850 (sic), in Mercer Co. IL, where her parents had taken up their abode during her early childhood. Removed to Seward county and settled on a homestead in May, 1866. To her were born six children, only one, Mrs. Effie Manley, of Iowa, now survives. Three of the children were buried at Seward; a bright little girl (Mary) of eight years, a young son, Isaac, who bore sad affliction during his whole life, and a young infant. Her death occurred in the summer of 1872, and she was buried at Seward. Mrs. Duncan was a most noble woman ... She united with the Missionary Baptist church in her early life. .... She left a husband and two children to mourn her loss, one of which, the infant, soon followed her to the tomb.
