I, Joel Duncan of the county of McDonough and State of Illinois make this my last will and testament.
First - I will that my funeral expenses & physician's bill be paid out of my personal property.
Second - I will that my just debts be paid out of my personal estate.
Third - I will to my Daughter Elizabeth Shelley & her heirs forty acres off the south end of what I own of the west half of the S.E. qr of S. nine in Township 7N.R.4 west of the fourth pm. The north line of said tract of land to be run East & west across the said W 1/2 of the S.E. 9 in Township aforesaid & at such distance from the south line as to contain forty acres.
Fourth - I will that my son Charles Duncan have one hundred dollars of the first money collected not otherwise appropriated.
Fifth - I will that after my property has been disposed of & the bequests heretofore enumerated have been complied with that the balance of the proceeds of my estate be equally divided between John Duncan, (The heirs of Russell Duncan one share,) Charles Duncan, Polly Scott, Margaret Cyrus, (The heirs of Joseph Duncan one share,) and Daniel Duncan.
Sixth - I nominate constitute and appoint James Cyrus, and Daniel Duncan my executors to this my last will and testament. I further will that my executors aforesaid be hereby authorized to dispose of my estate both real & personal (except the forty acres of land which I willed to my daughter Elizabeth and her heirs) at such time and in such manner as they may think most beneficial to the estate.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 9th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and fifty one. /s/ Joel (X his mark) Duncan.
