Elwood Cemetery, Clinton Co. IA (information from Bill Dunkin 2001 with permission to share)
Joshua Dunkin died Jan. 7, 1859
BD: I did find Joshua's tombstone, but there was no birth date on the weathered limestone? marker; the only other inscription at the bottom was I believe his age at death. I could not make out for sure what was inscribed but there appears to be the number 7.
Irene Dunkin, daughter of Joshua and Sarah Dunkin, born July 20, 1810 died June ? 1901. I have seen info from Sac County showing her death month as July.
BD: I do have some letters from the Boone Marble Works dated 1901 and 1902 written to William and Frank Dunkin concerning placing the marker in the spring of 1902. ... [O]ld receipts from the farm ... I found the order form from the monument company for her marker. It reads: dob July 20 1810, dod Feb 16 1901.

Pg.319: Clarence Thomas ... citizen of Clinton ... born in Gloucester, MA, February 12, 1862, a son of John and Susan Jeral Thomas, the former a native of Gloucester, the latter also of Gloucester. The father, who was a sea captain, died at Gloucester in 1867, but the mother is still living at the age of 65 years, and is now the wife of William H. Knight, aged 85. They now reside at 329 First avenue, Clinton. Mr. Knight was one of the early settlers of Fulton, Illinois. Our subject is the youngest of a family of 3 children, the others being Mabel, wife of L. Duncan, of Kansas; and F.N., a railroad man of Clinton. By the mother's second marriage she has one son, E.E. Knight, who is employed in a sawmill at Clinton. ....

His father, Joshua Dunkin, was a native of Virginia and a soldier in the war of 1812. His grandfather, John Dunkin, was a descendant of Scotch ancestry. The maiden name of our subject's mother was Sarah Richardson. She was born in Ohio, a descendant of German ancestry, and was first married to a Mr. Riley, by whom she had four children. She married Mr. Dunkin in Brown Co. OH, and her death occurred in Fulton Co. IL, at the age of sixty. After her death the father came to Clinton Co. IA, where he died at the age of seventy.
