      J-79: This is to certify that we have been intimately acquainted with Mr. Charles Berryman, son of Mr. Maximilian Berryman of Fauquier Co. VA, from the time of his youth and have always found him a very honest, industrious and careful man having supported as good a character as any man in our county. He was bred and born among us and descended from a very respectable family and his father worth considerable property. We have found him, Charles Berryman, never to cheat or defraud or take any advantage of his neighbors. His word has proved as good as his bond from the time of transacting his own business, 1 May 1804. John Blackwell, Colo. said co.
             It is directed Charles Berryman as he informed me to put title down who signs his character.             I certify Mr. Charles Berryman lived adj. my father's plantation from the time of my being a small school boy until after the death of my (MAD: sic) from the time I was capable I took the management of my father's affairs have dealing at different terms with said Berryman and though with my father that from our knowledge of Mr. Berryman and his general character that it was not even necessary to take his bond and always found him extremely punctual and honest and this day would take his word for as much as he is worth sooner than many a mans bond knowing his character to be so well supported by general principal.

            I certify I heard Mr. Charles Berryman at Fauquier Ct. House on a public day give notice he was going to the South with his family and any person he was owing if they would come forward he would satisfy them, 1 May 1804. /s/ James Withers.
            I certify that at a County Court in Fauquier Co., I heard Mr. Charles Berryman of same co. give public notice that he should start in a short time to state of Georgia and would be glad if all persons would come and pay him or if they had any claims against him, he would pay them, 2 May 1804.             We certify that from a long acquaintance with Charles Berryman, late of Fauquier Co. VA, that he has supported an honest and unsullied character, that we never knew him to wrong any man and he was willing to comply with any contract by him entered. He sprang from a very reputable and wealthy family, 14 May 1804. Augustine Jennings Senr. who is now and has for some years past been a representative in the VA Legislature.
            It is conceived requisite by Mr. Berryman that every man should affix his title to his name as also the respectability in which he stands.
