Repentance Tower and the Murray Family Burial Enclosure
Enclosure locked to prevent access.  Memorial inscriptions, recorded in a survey made in the 1960s, are listed below.

This burial place  being in a ruinous state was taken down rebuilt and considerably
enlarged & heightened in the wall by John Murray of Murraythwaite  ~  1800
The much older inscription cut into the lintel above the entrance can no longer be read
The inscription panel once located in the central niche is probably now lying below obscured by nettles and brambles .
Memorial Inscriptions as read from the left to the right are as follows:
In memory of John Murray of Tundergarth born 1775 died 1822. And Catherine Arthington his wife born 1780 died 1866 and their son William born 1801 died at Jubbelpore 1842. Henry Montagu Scott born 1802 died 1844. George born 1807 died at Meean-Mear 1856. Joseph Carlyle born 1818 died 1833. Also of Henrietta Sarah Goodenough wife of George Murray who died at Meean-Mear 1856 �Them which sleeps in Jesus will God bring with him�.
In memory of William Murray laird of Murraythwaite 1865 � 1923 and of his wife Evelyn Bruce 1866 � 1943.  And of their daughter Margaret Elizabeth wife of Major James Galbraith D.S.O. 1893 -   Vivian wife of Brigadier Basil Luke D.S.O., K.O.S.B. 1896     Eleanor Justine wife of Col. Robert Armstrong 1899 -
In memory of William Murray Esq. of Murraythwaite and Mrs Elizabeth Dalrymple his wife who survived him many years and died on 11th December 1779 aged 79 years. Also of Agnes Murray their daughter who died   June 1858. And William Murray their grandson eldest son of William Murray of Tundergarth Esq. who died 1st of November 1781 aged 2. All buried here. Also of Alexander Murray son of William Murray of Tundergarth who died greatly regretted 15th February 1799 in the 26th year of his age.
In memory of John Dalrymple Murray of Murraythwaite born 6th June 1800 died 17th October 1863. And of Marion Hogart his wife died 24th May 1828. Also of Ann Elizabeth Askew his wife died 14th September 1845. Also John Murray of Murraythwaite born 1828 died 1872 deeply regretted. And Grace Harriet Graham his wife born October 1837 died August 1923. And their children Fergus Captain Scottish Rifles killed in action 1900. Flora M.D.C.B.E. obt. 1923 Helen obt. 1927. Marion Gertrude 1866 � 1950. Edith 1868 � 1947.
In memory of John Murray of Murraythwaite 1726 � 1823.
In memory of Rear Admiral Alexander Murray fourth son of John Murray of Tundergarth born at Murraythwaite 1808 died at Waterside 1870. �He is not dead but sleepeth�.
Know as the African's burial place this memorial inscription reads thus:
Here lyes Charles Murray a native of Africa servant to Thomas Murray of Murraythwaite who died 5th February  1778
