Descendants of James Ivey

Generation No. 1

1. JAMES1 IVEY was born Bet. 1790 - 1800, and died Bef. September 1853 in Probably Crawford Co., ILL. He married MARGARET CORRELL Bef. 1820. She was born Abt. 1802 in North Carolina, and died Aft. September 1853.

Notes for J
AMES IVEY:
In Gibson Co., Indiana on April 7, 1820 'a' James Ivey married Peggy Currell. Margaret signed 'Peggy Ivey' when giving consent for her daughter Elisabeth to marry James Thomas Winters. 'A' James Ivey is in the 1820 Census of Gibson Co., with one male 16-25 years and one female 16-25 years. This also fits. The ONLY James Ivey in Indiana and Illinois during this period is in Gibson Co., IN in 1820, and then in Crawford Co., ILL in 1830. (NOT in Crawford in 1820 nor in Gibson in 1830!!!) Highly suggestive, but not quite conclusive. If this IS the same James Ivey, and if this census is correct, we could narrow in on James birth year. By combining the 1820 and 1830 info, James would have been born 1795-1800, or 20-25 years when he married.

Correll researchers Leo and Noble Correll (whose work has been updated and expanded on by Scarlett Correll Williamson) have Margaret Correll who married Jame Ivey as the daughter of John Correll and Mary Trautman. This would make Alfred Correll (in Crawford Co, Ill in the 1830 Census just two doors down from James Ivey) Margaret's brother. (The family between them is the Daniel Rumble family.) I strongly suspect that this connection is correct, but I will have to find proof first.

Perhaps not related, but there is a Curtis Ivy in Knox Co., IN in 1820, the ONLY Ivy that I could find anywhere near James in 1820. What appears to be this same Curtis Ivy (spelled Ivie also) moves to Wabash Co., ILL by 1830 and is there in the 1840 & 1850 Census as well. The 1850 Census (in keeping with approximates of previous years) indicates that Curtis was born in 1785, to young to be James father, though perhaps a brother,.......
