"Married
on the 21st, by the Rev. Mr. Smith, Mr. Andrew N. Miller, to Miss Sarah
Copenhaver, all of this county"
The Republican
Banner, Saturday 23 March 1833 (printed in Williamsport, Maryland 1830-1837)
This marriage notice is the only actual record that has been located for Andrew and Sarah in Washington County, Maryland. A search of the Historical Society in Hagerstown turned up nothing beyond their names in the register of marriage licenses issued and the marriage notice in The Republican Banner. While we have no clues as to the ancestry of Andrew Miller, it is possible that Sarah Copenhaver was the sister of Henry Copenhaver who married Susan Shanafelt in Washington County, Maryland and who died in Morgan County, Indiana. Henry Copenhaver arrived in Madison Township, Morgan County, Indiana about 1840; he retired to West Newton, Marion County, Indiana about the same time that Sarah Copenhaver Miller lived in the same village.
Much of the information we have for Henry Copenhaver is contained in the obituary notice in the Martinsville, Indiana newspaper.
"In Memorium for Susannah Shannafelt who was born in Washington County, Maryland, 22 October 1813 and died 16 March 1890, age 76 years, 4 months and 24 days. She married Henry Copenhaver, of Huntington, Tennessee [ed. note - most likely Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania] 4 February 1830 and they emigrated to Indiana in 1840. 4 daughters survive them. He died shortly before her and they had been married nearly 60 years. She was buried next to her husband at the Mooresville Cemetery." - Martinsville Republican, 27 March 1890
