Notes for Adolf Carl GOETH
Adolph Carl joined the Walter Tips business in Austin as an employee in 1884, within time becoming the general manager and in 1914 president of the corporation. He also became a member of the Tips family with his 1887 marriage to Walter Tips' eldest daughter Julia. The young couple honeymooned in Havana, Cuba. Arriving back in Austin, Julia and her mother discovered that they were both expecting a child in the late fall of that year. Julia's youngest sister, Mamie, was born in October and Julia's daughter, Carrie, was born six weeks later. As Mrs. Tips had no milk to nurse her daughter, Julia nursed both of the girls. Later, Julia and Adolph had another daughter and also a son, all the Goeth children born at the Goeth residence (which was next door to the Tips home) on West Seventh in Austin. Under Adolph's leadership, the Walter Tips Company greatly expanded. He was succeeded as president by George Groos.534

Notes for Adolf Carl & Julia (Family)
In 1887, our eldest son, Adolf, was married to Miss Julia Tips, the daughter of Mr. Walter Tips, industrialist and State Senator in Austin. Our eldest could not have brought home a more charming daughter-in-law. We had become acquainted with Mr. Tips in 1859 at the singing festival in Fredericksburg when he was only eighteen. At that time we did not anticipate the close family ties that were to develop later.

The young bride soon captured our hearts with her natural charm of manner. Her excellent piano playing enchanted all who heard her. She probably inherited her talent from her highly cultured father, who in spite of his extensive business obligations, found time to perfect himself as a cellist in a string quartet. Our son joined the Tips firm where he now occupies a responsible position. Of course we always enjoyed their visits. Soon they had a lovely family with two daughters, Carrie and Anita, and one son Ralph. As a youth Ralph showed a surprising talent for the violin, a genuinely inherited talent from his forebears.
