Thomas Betterley (1751-1836) was the son of Thomas Betterley (1723-1775) and Elizabeth Carson (1732-1775). He married Lydia Warren (1752-1839) in 1772 at his parents' home in Boston on Pleasant Street. Their children included Thomas, Lydia, Nancy, Elizabeth, Hannah, Lucy, Sally, William, George, and Samuel.

 Madam:

 I have to advise you from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim W. 20709, it appears that Thomas Betterly enlisted in 1777 and served three months as a private in Captains Watson's and Flowers' Company, Colonel Greaton's Massachusetts Regiment; enlisted in May 1778 and served three months as a private in Captain William Marshall's Company, Colonel Thomas Marshall's Massachusetts Regiment; after which he served twelve months as wagoner under Captain Higley and Captain Conner under James Thompson, General-wagonmaster, and was discharged August 18, 1779.

He was allowed a pension on his application executed April 21, 1818, while a resident of Newfane, Windham County, Vermont, in his sixty-ninth year of his age. He died at said Newfane, June 25, 1836.

Soldier married December 24, 1772 at Trinity Church, Boston, Massachusetts, Lydia Warder or Warden. She was allowed pension on her application executed June 28, 1837, while a resident of Newfane, Vermont, aged eighty-five years.

Sons, Samuel and William are referred to. No further data as to children.
