About the Ekblad name
Magnus and Peter Jonsson, sons of Jon Sebbesson, took the name Ekblad from the farm on which they were born. This was Ekemon or Ekemoen in Vislanda Parish, Kronoberg County (part of old Småland Province), Sweden. The name means oak leaf in Swedish and is sometimes spelled Eckblad by later generations. I don't know if other siblings took this surname when emigrating. Sister Catharina Jonsdotter married in Sweden.
Magnus Sebbesson, brother of Jon, had a son name Peter Magnusson whose family took the name Ecklund, Eklund, or Ekelund. This translates as oak grove, probably again taken from the farm name. They used the name in Sweden before emigrating, though Peter emigrated before most of them and perhaps did not.
The Family in Sweden
Cousin Linda Knochenmus visited the Ekemoen farm where Sebbe Jonsson was born, as well as his sons Jon and Magnus Sebbesson and their children. Jöns Jönsson and wife Kerstin (my 4th great grandparents) owned Ekemoen Norregård (north farm) as of 1780 when Ekemoen was divided into two farms. Their son Sebbe Jönsson and wife Märta Svensdotter (my 3rd great grandparents) took it over when they married in 1800. Then their son Jon Sebbesson and wife Elin Månsdotter (my 2nd great grandparents) took it over before selling it to their eldest son, Petter Jonsson (Peter Ekblad), in 1854. Peter sold it to Johan Johansson and wife Kristina Magnusdotter (don't know if they were related) in 1860. He lived elsewhere until emigrating in about 1868, perhaps including Rydaholm.
As for the rest of Jon Sebbesson's children, daughter Ingrid later lived at Mökhult. Magnus (Great Grandpa Magnus Ekblad) once worked for Uncle Magnus Sebbesson at Ekemoen Södregård. His first child was born at Kalkatorp, but Grandpa said he lived at Rödjan. Samuel later lived at Bökebacken.
I don't know who owned Ekemoen Södregård (south farm) from 1780 until 1854 when Magnus Sebbesson owned it. Magnus was the brother of Jon Sebbesson of the north farm. Son Petter Magnusson and wife Anna-Sara Karlsdotter (the Ecklund/Eklund/Ekelund family) took over the south farm in 1866 and then purchased the north farm in 1873 to reunite Ekemoen after nearly 100 years. Petter emigrated in 1889 and died tragically within six months. He and probably two of his daughters were scouting out America while Anna-Sara remained in Sweden until sent for. I can't say for sure, but it is assumed that Anna-Sara continued to own Ekemon until 1910. Sven Gustav Johannson (not our relative) bought the north farm, and probably the south farm as well, in 1910. It has remained in his family since then.

unknown Magnus Ekblad was probably the first in the family to emigrate. He arrived on 05 Jul 1866 with his wife, Ingrid, daughter Carrie, and daughter Emily who was born in Dunkirk, NY on the way to Vasa in Goodhue County, Minnesota. Ingrid's parents, Jon Pearson and Catharina Turner, also accompanied them. Magnus lived on 40 acres in Section 3 of Vasa Twp before moving to 160 acres in Section 7/18 of Featherstone Twp.
The Featherstone farm was later taken over by son Emil and then grandson Willis before finally being sold in the 1970s to Phillip and Miriam Johnston. Miriam is a Pearson relative and is also descended from both Ingrid and Sven, siblings of Magnus Ekblad. This farm was always a special place for me, and I remember playing checkers with Grandma Christine and exploring the back half of the house. This was where Magnus lived while Emil lived in the front half. I was lucky enough to plant trees there with my high school Environment class because Phil Johnston was the Goodhue High Counselor and invited us to do so.
Peter Ekblad arrived in America in about 1868 with his children and second wife. He first lived on 40 acres in Section 2 of Vasa Twp and later moved to Mower County before ending up in Burnside near Red Wing.
Catharina arrived with her husband, Jonas Olson, in about 1880. They lived in Vasa Twp before moving to St. Paul, MN and then back to Vasa.
