England, Sep, 1879. Note toy horse at feet of Ellen. Thomas and Ellen had
7 children of which 5 lived to adulthood. When this photo was taken, Thomas
and Ellen had already lost their first two children, Jane Ann and Alma
Emma. As was common in their day, newborn children were often named after
a child that had died earlier. In Thomas' family, Jane Ann was used twice
for a child's name. |
