I Ebenezer BARTLETT of the county of Hancock and State of Illinois being of sound mind do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following:

First it is my Will that my funeral expenses, and all debts be fully paid. Secondly I give to my wife, Rebecca, all the remainder of my property, real and personal during her lifetime or widowhood with full power while she remain my widow until death to dispose of it as she think proper but if she shall marry or die without first making a will then it is my will that my daughters Malinda DUNCAN, Sally Ann CRANDER (or Crowder*) and Mary Jane BARTLETT have fifty dollars each then the balance of my property be equally divided between my two sons viz: Franklin J. BARTLETT, Henry J. BARTLETT, and my three daughters Malinda DUNCAN, Sally Ann CROWDER and Mary Jane BARTLETT, and Lastly I name my son Franklin J. BARTLETT and William DARNALL executors.

In Testimony whereof I set my hand and seal this 30th day of October A.D. 1843.

Ebenezer BARTLETT was born 1775-1780* [Census], the son of "William BARTLETT of Virginia and Kentucky" (died 1820, Nicholas Co., KY) [Ref: Peden, "Marylanders to KY 1775-1825"] and an unknown wife. In Bourbon County, KY on 29 Aug 1798 he posted bond to marry Rebecca STANDIFORD, b. Jul 27, 1782 in Baltimore, MD, the dau of Aquilla STANDIFORD and Sarah CLARK. In 1830 he moved from KY to Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL, then to Pike Co., IL and from there to Hancock Co., IL where he operated a grist and saw mill. The probate of his will states he died Dec 2, 1843. Rebecca died in 1845. [Sandra G. Taylor]
*Estimated b/d of Ebenezer Bartlett based on 1820 & 1830 Census: 1820 - 1 m. b. 1775-1794; 1830 - 1 m. b. 1770-80; therefore, b. not earlier than 1775, nor later than 1780.
