Edward Merritt to John H Daniel
This indenture made and intered into this the 4 day of
December 1857 between Edward Merritt and Jane Merritt his
wife of the County of Monroe and State of Mississippi of
the first part and John H Daniel of the state and county
aforesaid of the second part witnesseth that for and in
consideration of the sum of One Thousand dollars the said
party of the first part in hand paid by the party of the
second part the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged the
said party of the first part have this day bargained sold
and conveyed to the party of the second part their heirs
and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land known and
designated in this State of Mississippi and Monroe County
as the South west quarter of Section (20) Township (12)
Range 7 East containing one hundred and sixty acres more
or less To have and to hold the above tract of land
bargained (___) behalf of them the said party of the second
part (___) in fee simple forever and the said parties of
the first part for themselves their heirs and assigns do
covenant and agree (___) the said party of the second part
their heirs and assigns that they warrant and forever
defend the title of said tract of land free from the claim
or claims of all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof
we the said party of the first part have hereunto set their
hands and affixed their seals the day and date before
written.

Justice of the Peace in and for said county Edward Merritt
and Jane Merritt who acknowledged that they signed sealed
and delivered the foregoing deed of conveyance to John H
Daniel on the day and date thereof for the purposes therein
mentioned as their act and deed. And the said Jane Merritt
wife of the said Edward Merritt after being examined by me
apart from her husband acknowledged the relinquishment of
her right of dower in and to said land as her voluntary act
and deed without any fear or threat of her husband.

This indenture made & entered into this (___) day of
April AD 1858 by & between John H Daniel & his wife
Nancy Daniel of the first part and Henry B Gillispie of
the second part
and Benjamin G Knowles and P(___) Knowles parties under the
(___) & name of BG & PA Knowles of the third part
and all of the state & county aforesaid witnesseth:
that whereas the said John H Daniel is indebted to the said
BG & PA Knowles in the sum of five hundred and fifty one
30/100 dollars due by his sealed note to this order for
that sum dated April the 2nd 1858 & due on or before the
2nd of March 1859 for borrowed money with interest thereon
after maturity at the rate of ten per centum per annum
which said debt the said parties of the third part are
desirous and the parties of the first part are willing
shall be received as herein after provided for. Now
therefore in consideration of the (___) & in further
consideration of the sum of five dollars now paid by said H
B Gillispie to said parties of first part (___) & said
John H Daniel & his said wife Nancy Daniel do this day
hereby grant bargain sell convey & deliver to the said
Henry B Gillispie & to his heirs in fee simple forever
the following tract or parcel of land & the tenements &
appurtenances thereon lying in said Monroe County viz the
South west fourth of Section twenty (20) Township Twelve
(12) in Range seven (7) East of the basis meridian of the
Chickasaw cession of land & tenements to the said HB
Gillispie & his heirs in fee simple and due said
parties of
the first part warrant hereby to said HB Gillispie &
his heirs & will always defend the fee simple title to
said
land & tenements but the foregoing conveyance is upon
the following (___) & conditions viz that the said Jon H
Daniel & wife be permitted to remain in possession of
said land
until default be made in the payment of the above described
note or any part thereof at the maturity thereof. At which
time if any part remain unpaid the said HB Gillispie shall
take possession of said land and after advertising the time
& place for thirty days previously by written notice
posted
at three public places in said county shall proceed to sell
the same in the town of Cotton Gin Port at public outcry to
the highest bidder for cash and out of the proceeds of such
sale shall pay all the expenses of this trust and the full
amount then remaining (___) BG & PA Knowles and the
balance remaining if any shall be paid to the said John H
Daniel and the said HB Gillispie (___) said land and the
said HB Gillispie (___) said land so sold to the purchasers
at such sale, but if at any time before such note &
all due
therein & the expenses of this trust shall have been
fully paid off & discharged to said BG & PA
Knowles due
this indenture & every part thereof to be & remain
(___) forth null & void. And if any time before the
full
execution of this trust the said HB Gilispie shall die
remove from the
state or resign his trusteeship or shall refuse to act as
such the said ]HB Gillispie[ BG Knowles & PA Knowles or
either of them may in writing under their seals to be
recorded & acknowledged as this indenture nominates
& appoints his successor as such trustee herein which
successor shall be changed with all the details &
responsibilities & clothed with all the powers now
devolving on or resting in the said HB Gillispie by virtue
hereof.

delivered the foregoing deed of trust as their voluntary
act and deed on the day of its date for the purposes &
in the considerations herein expressed And the said Nancy
Daniel having been by me personally interrogated separate
& apart from her said husband acknowledged that she
executed & delivered the same as her voluntary act and
deed freely without any fear threat or compulsion of her
said husband.

This indenture made and entered into this the seventh day
of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred
and Fifty Nine between Robert A Rutledge and his wife Eliza
Jane parties of the First par and Edward Crosslin party of
the Second all of the State and County aforesaid.
(Witnesseth)
That whereas the said R A Rutledge and his wife Eliza Jane
parties of the first part for and in consideration of four
hundred & ninety dollars to them in hand paid the
receipt whereof we hereby acknowledge hath bargained sold
and
conveyed unto the said Edward Crosslin party of the second
part a certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in
the
aforesaid state and county known and designated as the
North East Quarter of section Eight of the North West
Quarter of section Nine Township Thirteen of Range Seven
containing two hundred acres. And by these presents the
said R A Rutledge & his wife Eliza J and for
themselves &
for their heirs assigns & administrators has bargained
sold & conveyed unto the said Edward Crosslin all of the
aforesaid piece or parcel of land and do hereby bind
themselves their heirs assigns & administrations to
warrant and defend the title of the said indenture unto the
said Edward Crosslin his heirs assigns & administrators
against the claim or claims of any person or persons
claiming under them any other person persons whatsoever.
And the said Eliza Jane Rutledge do hereby relinquish her
right of Dower in & to the aforesaid land in testimony
whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our
seals on the day and date above written.

Edward Crosslin Trust H B Gillispie
This indenture made & entered into by & between Edward
Crosslin & his wife Elizabeth Crosslin of the first part
and Robert A Penual of the second part and H B Gillispie of
the thin part all of said County & State witnesseth, that
whereas the said Edward Crosslin is in debted to the said H
B Gillispie in the sum of Five hundred and fifty one
41/100 dollars due by his said note to him or order for
that sum dated 8th day of June 1859 and due the first day
of March Eighteen hundred and sixty for borrowed money with
interest thereafter maturing at the rate of ten per centum
per annum which said debt the party of the second is desirous
and the parties of the first are willing shall be ___
further secured as hereinafter provided for. Now therefore
in consideration of the premises & in further consideration
of the sum of Five dollars now paid by the said Edward
Crosslin and his wife Elizabeth Crosslin do this day and
hereby grant bargain sell convey & deliver to the said
Peunal and heirs in fee simple forever the following tract
or parcel of land the tenements & appurtenances thereunto
belonging lying in said Monroe County and state
aforementioned viz the North East quarter of section eight
(8) Township thirteen (13) of Range seven (7) also the
North west quarter of the North west quarter of Section
nine (9) Township thirteen (13) of Range seven (7)
Containing two hundred acres more or less. Also two
wagons three head of horses two yoke of oxen and six head
cattle to have and to hold said land tenements and other
personal property to the said Peunal his heirs in fee
simple and the said ___ of the first warrant hereby to the
said Peunal & his heirs and will always defend the fee
simple title to said land. But the forgoing conveyance is
upon the following trust & conditions viz that the said
Edward Crosslin and wife be permitted to remain possession
of said land and other property until default be made in
the payment of the above described note or any part
thereof at the maturity thereof at which time if any part
remain unpaid the said Peunal shall take possession of said
land and other property or as much thereof as may be
necessary for the purposes thereof and after advertising
the time and place of sale for twenty days previously by
written notice posted at three public places in said County
of Monroe shall proceed to sell the same in the Town of
Cotton Gin Port at public outcry to the highest bidder for
cash and out of the proceeds of such sale shall pay all the
expenses of this trust and the full amount then remaining
due on said note to said H B Gillispie and the balance
remaining if any shall be paid to said Edward Crosslin and
the said Peunal shall thereupon convey said property so
sold to the purchaser at such sale. But if at any time
before said sale the said note and due thereon & the
expenses of this trust shall have been fully paid off and
discharged to said H B Gillispie then this indenture and
every part thereof to be & remain thenceforth null in
operation and void and if at any time before the full
execution of this trust the said Peunal shall die remove
from the state or resign his trusteeship or shall refuse to
act as such then the said H B Gillespie may in writing under
his seal to be recorded & acknowledged as this indenture
nominate and appoint his successor as such trustee herein
which successor shall be charged with all the duties and
responsibilities and clothed with all the powers now
devolving on or vested in the said Peunal by virtue
thereof. In testimony of all which the said parties have
hereto set their hands and affixed their seals this the 8th
day of June AD1859.

and on the consideration therein expressed and the said
Elizabeth Crosslin having been by me privately interrogated
separate and apart from her said husband acknowledged that
she executed and delivered the same upon voluntary act and
deed freely without any fear threat or compulsion of her
said husband.

Johnson Bickerstaff Deed to Nancy Phillips Lot (1) in S.E. Corner of the town of Cotten Gin
Know all men by these presents that I Johnson Bickerstaff
of the County of Monroe and State of Mississippi for and in
consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to me in
hand paid by Nancy Phillips the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged has this day bargained sold and conveyed and
doth by these presents bargain sell and convey in fee
simple unto the said Nancy Phillips a certain tract or
parcel of land known to be designated as lot number one by
the __th survey in the town of Cotton Gin Port in
Mississippi lying and being in the South east corner of
said town and south of the first survey, fronting sixty
feet and then running South two hundred and fifty feet
giving a space of ten feet between the said lot and the
land of J Bickerstaff, and I hereby bind myself, my heirs
to warrant and defend the title to said lot unto the said
Nancy Phillips her heirs and assigns forever against the
claims of all persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal, June 3rd 1863.

Dobson, L H Williams M H McCory and Henry Alexander,
members of the school Board for the County aforesaid ana
itum onccessors in office of the second part witnesseth,
that for and in consideration of having a separate public
school established in their neighborhood for the further
education of the white children of the sub District in
which they reside, and in the further consideration of the
sum of one dollar to them in hand paid by the party of the
second part the cert whereof is hearby acknowledged the
party of the first part have bargained sold and conveyed
unto the party of the second part for the use of public
school in aforesaid a certain tract or parcel of land lying
and being in the County of Monroe and State of aforesaid
known numbered and designated as follows viz a perfect
square containing an acre of land and situated in the North
West corner of the south west quarter of Section four (4)
in Township Thirteen (13) of Range seven (7) East of the
Basic Meredian Chickasaw Cesssion together with all the
appurtenances thereunto belonging and the party of the
first will forever warrant and defend the title in fee
simple to the above land described land in testimony
whereof the party of the first part hereunto subscribed
their names and affixed their seals on this day and date
