For more than a year, the Cregan Ancestry site has been nothing more than a vision in my mind's eye. Perhaps it was Irish-American Heritage Month or St. Patrick's Day on the horizon that provided the decisive kick motivating me to buckle down for a couple days and make it a reality. Nah! Truthfully, those are just two very nice coincidences. My sole motivation has been my irreplaceable mom, a strong yet gentle Irish Catholic woman with amazing energy and an indomitable spirit, also described as the 'Irish dickens'!

I suspect Mom hails from a line of Irish dickens; Three generations of Oster men, Mom's father, grandfather and great grandfather all married Irish Catholic women. By Mom's generation, these 'dickens' reduced her German Oster blood to a mere one sixteenth. Dad and Mom lovingly raised 11 natural children. They are the proud forebears of 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. They thoroughly enjoy every new genealogical 'discovery' that opens a window on their roots but nothing compares to the joy experienced when a 'long lost' relative or one never met is found.

This past Christmas, my sibs and I presented our parents with many framed pictures of their ancestors and a thick picture album of old photos, most culled from a few wonderfully sharing relatives. Unfortunately, a portion of these photos was not identifiable and those that would have known who they were have passed on. Then I realized they would make a marvelous addition to the future Cregan web site.

In conclusion, this web site is tenderly dedicated to Mom. Moreover, it is my effort, along with the aid of my sister to grow the family tree, uncover tidbits to delight Mom, and find 'new' cousins. In the process, we hope to help other Cregan researchers make connections and with a little luck of the Irish, discover the identities of these photos!
