WILL R. HONEYCUTT KILLED.

Was shot by Doll Little, Colored,

This Afternoon - Both Lived in Morven Township.

Will R. Honeycutt, a white man of Morven township,

about 30 years old, was shot and killed this afternoon

by Doll Little, colored, young negro, at Sullivan & Martins

gin at Morven. The M. & I. owing to the lateness of the

hour is unable to get full particulars, but it appears the

men both had loads of cotton waiting to be ginned and

quarreled over which one was to have his ginned first.

After the shooting Little ran, and had not been captured

at last reports. Honeycutt lived on Mr. Jeff Rhyne's place.

He is survived by a wife and two children. Little is the

stepson of Monroe Little, of Morven township.

MURDER OF W. R. HONEYCUTT

Doll Little Now in Jail and Will Have Preliminary Hearing Next

Saturday - Special Term of Court to Try Him.

The murder of Mr. Will R. Honeycutt by Doll Little last Thursday

afternoon happened so late that the M.& I. had only time to get the bare

outlines of the tragedy for last week's issue. It appears that Mr.

Honeycutt had gone to Sullivan & Martin's gin to have a bale of cotton

ginned. After he had been there some time, and several others with

cotton to be ginned had driven up, Doll Little drove up with a bale. He

told Honeycutt to get out of his way and give him his place. Honeycutt

of course refused to do this, and Little went away. He got a pistol and

returned, approached Honeycutt, who was sitting on his wagon beside

Mr. Kenny Pittman, from the rear and fired five shots into Honeycutt's

back. One of the shots broke Honeycutt's neck, and one or two others

would have been fatal. Honeycutt did not even know Little was there.

After the shooting, Little escaped to the woods and remained hidden

until about 9 o'clock at night, with a considerable part of the population

of Morven, and officers and others from Wadesboro looking for him.

Between 9 and 10 o'clock he went to the home of his mother, and she

called Officer Autrey of Morven. Mr. Autrey and others took Little

into custody, and he did not make any resistance, Little's mother had

previously told Mr. Autrey that she would call him when her son

came in, provided Mr. Autrey would see that he was not lynched.

Little was immediately brought to Wadesboro and placed in jail.

Little will have preliminary hearing next Saturday afternoon at 2

o'clock, and will no doubt be bound over without bond. The county

commissioners have requested Governor Bickett to call a special

term of court beginning Oct. 21 to try Little, and it is probable the

term will be held.

Doll Little, who killed Mr. Will Honeycutt at Morven two

weeks ago today, had a preliminary hearing last

Saturday afternoon, and was bound over to, court

without bail. A special term of court to try him has

been asked for, to convene Oct. 21st. It is probable

that the cases against Jim Reid and Tom Simons

will also be disposed of at this term of court.
