Margaret Myrtle May Hollinshead was born on 16 September 1892 at Fulton Township, Whiteside County, Illinois.2,3,1 She was the daughter of George Leland Hollinshead and Adelia Nancy Fisk.

The Hollinshead Family Cemetery, Ustick Township, Whiteside County, Illinois; "The [photo] of the cemetary is easily recognizable, and of the pasteur near it. I remember as though it were yesterday the burial there of Grandfather in 1901. I guess the fact that was a Masonic funeral that made a special impression on me." - Margaret Hollinshead, 6 Jan 1969.

In 1910, Margaret Myrtle May Hollinshead was enumerated with George Leland Hollinshead on the census at Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho.5

Margaret Myrtle May Hollinshead married William 'Otto' Thompson in 1918. Margaret Myrtle May Hollinshead wrote "High Trails of Glacier National Park" which is in the Library of Congress under F737.G5 T5 and includes pictures, one of herself, in 1936. She wrote "Space for living, a novel of the great Coulee and Columbia basin" which is in the Library of Congress under PZ3.T37544 Sp (a copy of it was autographed by her and given to her sister Emma-Jane), in 1944. She was Superintendent of Benton County School System between 1950 and 1963 at Benton County, Washington. She wrote "The conservation of Northwest resources" which is in the Library of Congress under HC107.A19 T5, in 1951. She wrote "On the trail with Marcus Whitman; a biography for young people" which is in the Library of Congress under F880.W598 T4, in 1952. She retired as superintendent in September 1963.1 As of 6 January 1969, Margaret Myrtle May Hollinshead lived at 4416 West Rio Grande Avenue, Kennewick, Washington. From a letter she wrote to her sisters and brother Argyll, she said the worst of the flu was over, and she hadn't been so seriously ill since she'd broken her arm in 1963. The snow looked soft enough to tackle, so she backed the car out of the driveway, and away she went, doing chores, and making a stop at the library to make xerox copies of materials she sent along. She then assigned her sisters genealogy research tasks. She figured that her greatgrandmother, Elizabeth Rush, as niece of Benjamin Rush, must have been the daughter then of Benjamin's brother Jacob. She also sent out a newspaper clipping about the "Grout House," their old farm, some photos, and data from the family bible. She reflected on the cemetery, and on her grandfather's masonic funeral, and how it made a special impression on her. She concluded "I'm wondering how many got the 'Hong Kong flu.' Hope I never have to go through such a spell again. Main thing now is to find food that I can endure and that will build up my strength. Hereafter, these family reunions should be planned at a different season. To one and all, much love, Margaret" on 6 January 1969. She suffered a stroke and was hospitalized on 12 January 1969 at Kennewick General Hosptial, Kennewick, Washington.1 She died on 30 January 1969 at Kennewick, Benton County, Washington, at age 76 years, 4 months and 14 days.6,1 Margaret Myrtle May Hollinshead was buried in Desert Lawn Cemetery. Services were at 2 p.m. at West Highland Methodist Church with Reverend Hamblin officiating.1
