On 1 June 1840, Eli Stalcup was enumerated with Stephen W. Stalcup on the census at Greene County, Indiana, Details provided: "Male age 10-15."

Eli Stalcup married Margaret J. Brookbank in 1853. Eli Stalcup served in the Civil War, enlisting in Company A, 115th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, serving eight months in Rosencrans' army. He had enlisted for six months but wound up serving two months extra having been at Cumberland Gap when his enlistment expired in 1863. He was had two cousins, Stephen and Calvin Stalcup, who had served in the Civil War too. He married Clara (?) on 16 May 1869 at Greene County, Indiana. Eli Stalcup was so described: a loyal Republican, but he always desired the best men in any public office, not caring to support "political rings" of questionable standing. He was constable for two terms and had been supervisor, but was never a candidate for important public offices. He was noted as a plain, honest citizen, who won his success by hard work and habits of industry in whatever he undertook. He lived in 1908 at Worthington, Greene County, Indiana. He died on 4 November 1910 at Greene County, Indiana, at age 82 years and 10 months.3
