Rush was a lawyer and statesman.² He was born on 29 August 1780 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.³ He was the son of Doctor Benjamin Rush and Julia Stockton.¹ Attorney General Richard D. Rush graduated in 1794 at New Jersey from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University).² He was admitted to the bar circa 1800.⁴ He fought a duel with Peter R. Brown, but fired into the air so no one was hurt, on 11 March 1801.² He married in Maryland due to War conditions in Pennsylvania.² He married Catherine Eliza Murray, daughter of James Murray and Sarah ?, on 29 August 1809 at Maryland.² Attorney General Richard D. Rush became Attorney General of Pennsylvania in 1811.² He was United States Attorney General in the cabinet of President James Monroe between 1814 and 1817.^2,5 He negotiated, as acting secretary of state, the Rush-Bagot Convention with British in 1817.² He was United States Minister to Great Britain between 1817 and 1825.⁵ He negotiated, as the United States minister to Great Britian, Canadian-U.S. boundaries in 1818.² He was United States Secretary of the Treasury between 1825 and 1829.⁵ He ran unsuccessfully for Vice-President on the Federalist ticket (John Q. Adams) in 1828.² He was United States minister to France during President James Polk's administration between 1847 and 1849.^2,5 He died on 28 July 1859 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at age 78 years, 10 months and 29 days.⁶

The Iowa Genealogical Society cemetery records state that "Rachel, wife of Samuel, died Oct 28, 1861, age 88 years, 4 months, and 9 days". Her son, David, lists the year of birth as 1864. Other records state a birth year of 1772. She was the daughter of Gerardus Ryker Sr. and Rachel Demaree. Rachel Ryker married Henry Houghland on 6 January 1791 at Jefferson County, Kentucky.¹ Rachel Ryker married William Robbins, son of Robbins, on 31 December 1793 at Shelby County, Kentucky.² Rachel Ryker married Samuel V. Smock, son of Jacob Smock and Catherine Demaree, on 8 November 1797 at Shelby County, Kentucky.³ Rachel Ryker died on 28 October 1861 at age 88 years, 4 months and 9 days. Rachel Ryker was buried in Mars Hill Cemetery, Wapello County, Iowa.

From GED file (and research of) Philip V. Thorne. Alexander N. Knight was buried in Grove Cemetery, Belfast, Waldo County, Maine. He was born in 1831 at Northport, Waldo County, Maine. The 1850 Illinois Cenus shows an Alexander Knight, born Maine, who is married to an Amanda. The Amanda Knight that I erroneously had felt was a daughter of George W Knight (as she is buried close to him) I have since been told was a daughter-in-law. If this census info is right then we may have the name of another of George W Knight's kids. He was the son of George W. Knight Sr. and Lydia Abigail Duncan. Alexander N. Knight died on 6 December 1861 at Belfast, Waldo County, Maine, at age 30 years.
