Elvira Fernández de Castilla was born circa 1042. She was the daughter of Fernando I Sánchez "el Magno", rey de Castilla y de León and reine de Castilla Sancha Alfonsez de León.1 Elvira Fernández de Castilla witnessed the will of Fernando I Sánchez "el Magno", rey de Castilla y de León between December 1063 and January 1064; Almost exactly two years before his death, Fernando I had decided that his realm should be divided among his three grown sons when that event should at last take place. The anonymous author of the Historia Silense tells us that the fateful decision was made in a great council in late December 1063 or early January 1064. This chronicle is probably the oldest narrative of the division that has come down to us, but it tells us merely that he assigned León to Alfonso, his favorite son; Castilla to Sancho, the eldest; and Galicia to García, the youngest. In addition, to daughters Urraca and Elvira were assigned ah the royal monasteries of the realm of León-Castilla for the remainder of their lives or until they should marry.2 Elvira Fernández de Castilla was a witness where Alfonso VI Fernández "el Bravo", rey de León appears at Sahagún, in the company of his sisters Urraca and Elvira among others, in a charter on 7 July 1068.3 Elvira Fernández de Castilla died in 1099.      This Arab title (Sidi, lord), is the usual mode of reference to Rodrigo de Vivar by Christian writers who speak of him as Mio Cid; Muslim writers more often give him the title of Campeador, the Challenger or Champion.6 Señor de Vivar. Also called Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar "El Cid". Rodrigo Díaz "el Cid", conde de Valencia, señor de Vivar was born circa 1043 at Castellanos de Castro, Burgos Province, Castile-León, Spain.7 He was the son of Diego Laínez de Vivar and Teresa Rodríguez.3,4,5 Rodrigo Díaz "el Cid", conde de Valencia, señor de Vivar an armed participant, as asserted by the Historia Roderici, in 1063 at the Battle of Graus.7 He was not nominated, at age 22, as the standard-bearer (armiger regis), or commander of the royal troops, for King Sancho II of Castile, as literature so often repeats in 1065.8,9 He confirmed some sixty percent of the charters of Sancho II, albeit his position in the royal court was most certainly of the second rank at best between 1065 and 1072.3 He was a witness where Sancho II Fernández "el Fuerte", rey de Castilla had some sixty percent of his charters confirmed by Rodrigo Díaz, the nobleman who would become famous as "El Cid" between 1065 and 1072.3 Rodrigo Díaz "el Cid", conde de Valencia, señor de Vivar accompanied Sancho on a campaign against the important Moorish kingdom of Saragossa (Zaragoza) and played a leading role in the negotiations that made its king, al-Muqtadir, a tributary of the Castilian crown, in 1067.8 He married Jimena Díaz de Oviedo, daughter of conde de Oviedo Diego Fernández and Christina Alfonsez de León, between 1074 and 1075.10,11,12,13 Rodrigo Díaz "el Cid", conde de Valencia, señor de Vivar was a witness where Berenguer Ramón "el Fratricida", conde de Barcelona, Gerona y Osona provided assistance to the moor Al-Mundhir, who had obtained Lérida, Tortosa and Denia from his father, Moctádir, against Al-Mundhir's brother, Mutamin, and the latter's ally, El Cid, who was the victor and took Berenguer-Ramon captive circa 1081.6 Rodrigo Díaz "el Cid", conde de Valencia, señor de Vivar was a witness where Alfonso VI Fernández "el Bravo", rey de León exiled Rodrigo de Vivar, the famous "El Cid" after the noble had attacked Muslim tributaries of Alfonso in 1081.14 Rodrigo Díaz "el Cid", conde de Valencia, señor de Vivar was exiled by Alfonso VI, exile prompted by the jealousy of other nobles according to the legendary tales, but more so because Rodrigo had attacked, on his own voltion, Muslims who were paying tribute to Alfonso and considered themselves, rightly, safe from such attacks in 1081.14 He entered the service of al-Muqtadir of Zaragoza with his band of men between 1081 and 1082 at between Fall and Spring.15 He was a famous knight of the eleventh century, being a well known power whose life was the subject of an epic Castilian poem between 1081 and 1094. He siezed Valencia from the Moors in 1094.13 Count of Valencia between 1094 and 1099. He died on 10 July 1099 at Valencia, Spain. He had ruled in Valencia until his death, whereupon his widow abandoned it to the Moors. . His bodied was removed from Valencia when it was abandoned to the Moors and given a heroes burial in Castile.6

Godefroid de Bouillon, roi de Jérusalem was the son of the elder Lord Eustace, the famous and splendid Count of that region, whose many and memorable works are still recalled by the old men of the neighboring provinces and his memory as a religious and Godfearing man is like a blessing" in the pious recollection of men.4 He was the son of Ida and nephew of the exalted Duke Godfrey of Lorraine who was known as Struma.4 He had 3 brothers: the Lord Baldwin, Count of Edessa, who succeeded Godfrey in the kingdom; and the Lord Eustace, Count of Boulogne, who was his father's namesake, successor to his father as Count and inheritor of the paternal estate…The third was Lord William, a famous man, no less virtuous and energetic than his father and brothers.4 He was tall and although he was shorter than the very tall, yet he was taller than men of average height. He was a man of incomparable strength, with stout limbs, a manly chest, and a handsome face.4 He had hair and a beard of a medium blond.4 He was born in 1061 at Baisy, Brabant.5 He was the son of Eustache II "aux Gernons", comte de Boulogne and Ida de Verdun.1,2,3 Godefroid de Bouillon, roi de Jérusalem was the successor of Konrad, Herzog von Nieder-Lothringen; 9th Duke of Lothier.1,6 Godefroid de Bouillon, roi de Jérusalem married Beatrice de Magnavil, daughter of Geoffrey I de Mandeville of Pleshy and Athelaise de Balts, before 1080. Godefroid de Bouillon, roi de Jérusalem was present at the siege and capture of Jerusalem in July 1099.9 He was crownded as the first Latin King of Jerusalem and despite his weakness as a ruler, he was later idolized in legend as the "perfect Christian knight, the peerless hero of the whole crusading epic." [S1026] Order of the Crown of America, Stuart Walcott Hamilton, I, Stuart Walcott Hamilton of Orange, County of Essex, and State of New Jersey, desire to place on record amont the archives of the Order the fact of my lineal descent from Charlemagne, Emperor of the West, which is as follows, as may be more fully seen in the pedigree annexed, viz:- Charlemagne, Louis I, Emperor Charles, Louis II, Charles the Simple, Louis IV, Duke Charles, Gerberga Countess of Louvain, Matilda Countewss of Boulogne, Eustace II County of Boulogne, Geoffrey de Boulogne, William D. Boulogne Faramusde Boulogne and de Tingry, Sibille de Tingry and de Fiennes, William de Fiennes, daughter of William de Fiennes wife of Bartholomew de Hampton, Sir Reginald de Hampton, Sir Alexander de Hampton, Sir Reginald de Hampton, John de Hampton, Edmund de Hampton, John Hapden, Anne Hampton, wife of William de Puttenham als. Putnam, Nicholas Putnam, Henry Putnam, Richard Putnam, John Putnam Nicholas Putnam, John Putnam Thomas Putnam, Deliverance Putnam, wife of Jonathan Walcott, William Walcott, Benjamin Walcott, Benjamin Stuart Walcott, Benjamin Stuart Walcott, Elizabeth Walcott, the mother of the said Stuart Walcott Hamilton. And I the deponent further say that the above line of ancestry, and as set forth in the pedigree annexed, is true to the best of my knowledge and belief. (Signed) Subscribed and sworn to before me (Seal) AUTHORITIES: The Royal Line from Charlemagne to Duke Charles is of common knowledge, and may be found set forth in any history of France of general reference work. The Ancestry of Matilda, wife of Eustace, County of Boulogne, will be found in a contemporary chronicle published with critical notes in Monumenta Germaniae. Domesday Book compiled in the reign of William the Conqueror (1086), and in the lifetime of the persons composing the three generations following Matilda, is authority for those generations, which are further confirmed by the reprinted archives, deeds, and abstracts given in the margin. Faramus of Boulogneis an historical character, and his descent is set forth in his charters, and in other legal documents contemporary with the lives of the persons most interested, (see references in the margin). The same is true of Sibilla de Tingry and her son. The Hampton pedigree is of date of 1579, and so far as possible to prove from printed records would appear to be authoritative, the only criticism being that there is a possibility of one generation having been doubled which in no wise affects the line of descent, and this pedigree is accepted by Lipscombe the careful historian of Buckinghamshire, and Edmonston in his magnificent work on the peerage as per references given in the margin. The Putnam line has been investigated by Eben Putnam and the published results have been confirmed in many important and minor particulars by later finds of deeds, lawsuits, etc., revealed by the publication of calanders and archives by the British Government. The fact that this family possessed lands in the parishes formerly the properties of these ancestors is in itself confirmatory of the pedigree. The search for Putnam ancestry included an exhaustive search of all probate records, feet of fines, lay subsidies, many series of close and patent rolls, and of parish registers, as well as Mss. collections in the British Museum and the Heralds College. NOTE TO THE READER: The following document was found in a box of old family papers, and has not been verified by me personally. The applicant, Stuart Walcott Hamilton is a relative from my grandmother's side (Margaret Hamilton Howard). The garrison, being in great distress from want of water, Robert forbade his soldiers to prevent detachments issuing from the place to draw water from the wells, and, on being blamed by William Rufus for his consideration, exclaimed, "What, shall we suffer our brother to perish of thirst? who can now give us another should we lose him?"
