William was herewith reconciled with the Pope.      Gislebert I de Gand, seigneur de Folquingham was per Burke's Dormant, son of Baldwin, Earl of Flanders, and the nephew of Maud, the wife of William the Conqueror (which is incorrect).5 Gilbert's name appears to have come from his mother's family -- her older brother was Gilbert count of Luxembourg (1047-59), and she had a paternal uncle also named Gilbert.2 He was said to have been second son of Ralph de Gant, lord of Alost.3 He was per Phair, his parents very probably Ralph, lord of Alost (Aalst in Flemish), and Gisele, daughter of Frederick count of Luxembourg.6,7 Also called 1st Earl of Lincoln Gilbert de Gant.5 He was a witness where Baldwin fitz Gilbert, lord of Bourne jure uxoris uncle of Gilbert de Gant, 1st Earl of Lincoln of that family.8 Gislebert I de Gand, seigneur de Folquingham was born circa 1040.2 He was the son of Raoul de Gand, seigneur d'Alost and Gisela von Lothringen.2,3,4 Gislebert I de Gand, seigneur de Folquingham said to have accompanied his uncle, William the Conqueror, into England, and participated in the triumph of Hastings, and obtained a grant of the lands of a Danish proprietor, named Tour, with many other holdings, but is not recorded as being at Hastings on 14 October 1066.9,10 He was in England when he and William Malet unsuccessfully defended York castle against the Danish invasion and local rebellion in 1069.11 He married Alice de Montfort-sur-Risle, daughter of Hugh II, comte de Montfort sur Risle and Alice de Beauffou.12 Gislebert I de Gand, seigneur de Folquingham witnessed a transaction, and described as having come from England as the brother of Baldwin of Ghent, in 1075 at Watten abbey, Nord, Flanders, France.13 He died between 1088 and 1100.      Also called William I de Warenne.1,2 Guillaume I de Varennes, 1st Earl of Surrey was born circa 1036 at Bellencombe, France. RFC says 1055. But this won't work for me. It's makes his mother and father rather old in a harsh time, and he did accompany William the Conqueror to England. Too, his mother being the daughter of Herbastus, the brother of Gunnor of Normandy, William the Conqueror's mother, William's mother is older still. He was the son of Ranulph I de Varennes and Beatrice of Rouen. Guillaume I de Varennes, 1st Earl of Surrey was a witness where Roger de Mortemer lost some of his land to his kinsman William de Warenne following the battle of Mortemer, at which he had assisted the escape of a French prisoner, Ralph count of Montdider, to whom he done homage, in 1054.3 Guillaume I de Varennes, 1st Earl of Surrey married Gundred of Flanders, daughter of Gherbod of Flanders, before 1065; His 1st.4,5 William of Normandy invades and takes England. On 14 October 1066 at the Battle of Hastings, England.6 Guillaume I de Varennes, 1st Earl of Surrey was recorded by William of Poitiers, he is the 11th of 20 men known with certainty to have fought with William the Conqueror on 14 October 1066 at the Battle of Hastings, England.6 He was joined as "Ricardus de Benefacta," or Richard FitzGilbert de Clare, in the great office of Justiciary of England in 1073 at 6 William I.7 Justiciar of England in 1073.7 He was a witness where Richard fitz Gilbert, Justiciar of England joined, as "Ricardus de Benefacta," William de Warren in the great office of Justiciary of England in 1073 at 6 William I.7,8 Guillaume I de Varennes, 1st Earl of Surrey was in arms with Richard FitzGilbert (de Clare) against the rebellious lords, Robert de Britolio, Earl of Hereford, and Ralph Waher, or Guader, Earl of Norfolk and Suffolk, in 1076.7 He was a witness where Richard fitz Gilbert, Justiciar of England in arms with William de Warenne against the rebellious lords, Robert de Britolio, Earl of Hereford, and Ralph Waher, or Guader, Earl of Norfolk and Suffolk, and behaved with great gallantry in 1076.7 Earl of Surrey at William II, England, after 26 September 1087.5 Guillaume I de Varennes, 1st Earl of Surrey left a will in 1088; William of Warenne, when dying, made his two sons his heirs by the king's decree, William in England and Reynold in Flanders. ... "Willemus autem de Warennia apud obsidionem Peveneselli sagitta in crure valde vulneratus, Leuwias cum omnium mœrore deportatus est. Cumque sibi mortem imminere videret, duos filios suos juxta regis decretum hæredes fecit, Willelmum videlicet in Anglia et Reginaldum in Flandria, et sic in pace quievit in Domino, cujus corpus a beato patre Lanzone et tota congregatione Sancti Pancratii debito honore est susceptum, et infra claustra monasterii juxta conjugem ante annos defunctam tumulatum."9 He was a witness where Guillaume II de Varennes, 2nd Earl of Surrey heir to his father, by the king's decree, to the estates in England in 1088.5 Guillaume I de Varennes, 1st Earl of Surrey was a witness where Reinaud de Warenne heir to his father, by the king's decree, to the estates in Flanders in 1088.5 Guillaume I de Varennes, 1st Earl of Surrey died on 24 June 1088 at Lewes, Surrey, England.

García Fernández, rey de Galicia was born circa 1044. The third son.1,3 He was the son of Fernando I Sánchez "el Magno", rey de Castilla y de León and reine de Castilla Sancha Alfonsez de León.2,1 García Fernández, rey de Galicia witnessed the will of Fernando I Sánchez "el Magno", rey de Castilla y de León between December 1063 and January 1064; Almost exactly two years before his death, Fernando I had decided that his realm should be divided among his three grown sons when that event should at last take place. The anonymous author of the Historia Silense tells us that the fateful decision was made in a great council in late December 1063 or early January 1064. This chronicle is probably the oldest narrative of the division that has come down to us, but it tells us merely that he assigned León to Alfonso, his favorite son; Castilla to Sancho, the eldest; and Galicia to García, the youngest. In addition, to daughters Urraca and Elvira were assigned ah the royal monasteries of the realm of León-Castilla for the remainder of their lives or until they should marry.4 García Fernández, rey de Galicia is first seen exercising some power with a document regarding a judicial settlement between him and Bishop Suero of Mondoñedo, he father was present and confirmed the act, it was enacted in Garcías name, though he does not style himself king, on 11 September 1064.5 He inherited Galicia, and a portion of Portugal, in the split of his father's kingdom in 1065.1 King of Galicia at Iberian peninsula between 27 December 1065 and 1071.1,6,7 He forced a donation by the Portuguese noble, García Múñoz, of the whole of his property to the crown on 24 March 1066.8 He was dispossessed of Galicia by force by his brother, Sancho the Strong, in 1071.6 He was sent into exile to the Moorish court at Seville in 1071.1 He returned from Seville after his brother Sancho II's death during the fratricidal struggle with Alfonso VI and their sister Urraca in 1072.1 King of Galicia, restored at Iberian peninsula between 1072 and 1073.6 He was a witness where Alfonso VI Fernández "el Bravo", rey de León arrested his brother García, with conniving from his sister Urraca, and imprisoning him for life in Castle Luna in 1073. García Fernández, rey de Galicia was arrested by his brother, Alfonso VI, and imprisoned in the castle at Luna, never to be released, in 1073.1 He died on 22 March 1090 at Luna Castle, Spain. "And there in captivity he wanted to let his blood, and after he had bled himself he fell onto his bed and died." García became a figure of Castilian poetry and romance, popular in the European Middle Ages.1,9 García Fernández, rey de Galicia was buried in León, Spain.9

Recalled by Anna Komnena in her Alexiad: "Gaita, ... when dressed in full armour ... was a fearsome sight."6 "Sichelgaita needs some explanation. She was cast in a Wagnerian mould, the closest approximation in history to a Valkyrie. A woman of immense build, she hardly ever left her husband's side - least of all in battle, one of her favourite occupations. At such moments, charging into the fray, her long blonde hair streaming from beneath her helmet, deafening friend and foe alike with huge shouts of encouragement or imprecation, she must have looked - even if she did not altogether sound - worthy to take her place beside Brunnhilde herself."2 Sichelgaita of Salerno was the sister of the Lombard prince Gisulf II of Salerno and daughter of Gaimar V.7,8,9 Also called Duchess of Salerno Sigelgaita of Salerno.9 Also called Sikelgaita.4 She was the mother of Roger "Borsa", duc d' Apulia; the son of Robert Guiscard by Robert's second marriage--to Sigelgaita, sister of the Lombard prince Gisulf of Salerno.7 Sichelgaita of Salerno was born between 1040 and 1045.9 She was the daughter of Gaimar V, Duke of Salerno and Porpora of Tabellaria.3,4,5 Sichelgaita of Salerno married Robert "Guiscard", duc d' Apulia, son of Tancred de Hauteville and Fredesende de Normandie, in 1058 at Melfi, Potenza, Basilicata, Italy; His 2nd (divorced).10,11,4,1,8,9 Sichelgaita of Salerno witnessed the death of Robert "Guiscard", duc d' Apulia on 17 July 1085 at near Cephalonia, Greece, Byzantine Empire; Following his successes, he returned to his campaign on the Adriatic coast, but died during the siege of Cephalonia. He died of the epidemic which had earlier incapacitated his army. His wife was beside him to the last.11,12,13 Sichelgaita of Salerno died on 27 March 1090.9 Sichelgaita of Salerno was buried in Montecassiano, Marche, Italy.9
