Humbert I "the White Handed", comte de Savoie was Conrad II's most faithful vassal, and exercised power over lands that sealed Lombardy off from France while making it accessible to the Emperor.2 He was may have been the son of Beroldus, and his mother was almost certainly the Ermengarde who as a widow married King Rudolf III of Burgundy. He was possibly, though his origins are surrounded by controversy, the son of the semilegendary hero Bérold of Saxony, ally of King Rudolf III of Burgundy.2 Humbert I "the White Handed", comte de Savoie also went by the name of Umberto "Bianca Mano".2 He was born in 982. Humbert was probably of Teutonic origin and a descendant of the Saxon hero Wittekind.3 He was the son of Bérold of Saxony and Ermengarde (?).3 Count of Salmourenc at Viennois, Viennois, France, in 1003.3 Humbert I "the White Handed", comte de Savoie married Anzilla von Lenzburg, daughter of Reichsvogtes von Zürich, Graf von Lenzburg Arnold von Lenzburg.4,3 Count of Noyon in 1018.3 Count of Aosta at Valle d’Aosta, Italy, in 1024.5 Humbert I "the White Handed", comte de Savoie led troops of Archbishop Heribert of Milan and Margrave Boniface of Tuscany, defending Conrad II's inheritance against Eudes (Odo) of Champagne, whom he pursued into Lorraine, defeated, and killed in 1033.2 He seized and burned the city of Saint-Jean de Maurienne when Everard, bishop of Maurienne, bordering on the northern approach to the Mont-Cenis pass, refused to pay homage to Conrad in 1035.2 Count of Chablais at France between 1035 and 1051. Count of Maurienne at Rhône-Alpes, Savoy, in 1038.3,5 Count of Savoy between 1038 and 1051. He died circa 1048.2

N. the Paphlagonian, on 12 April 1034 at the Great Palace, Constantinople, Byzantium; Her 2nd. Neglected by her husband, Romanus, she became enamoured of Michael, her young Paphlagonian chamberlain. They were married before the body of Zoë's previous husband had been removed from the area of the pool in which he'd drowned. Killed, some say, by the very couple themselves.8 Zoë, basilissa Rhomaiôn was co-ruler with Michael V Calaphates, basileus Rhomaiôn; Co-Emperor.4 Zoë, basilissa Rhomaiôn was co-ruler with basilissa Rhomaiôn Theodora of Byzantium; co-Emperess.10 Zoë, basilissa Rhomaiôn was was forced from Contantinople by her adopted son, Michael V on 18 April 1042. She was forced into a convent on the island of Prinkipo; an exile she did not protest. This exile enraged the citizens of Constantinople, and the fighting would drive Michael, and his Uncle Constantine, instigator of this, into hiding in the Great Palace. She was naturally more plump than some, although she was not strikingly tall. Her eyes were large, set wide apart with imposing eyebrows. Her nose inclined to be aquiline, without being altogether so. She had golden hair, and her whole body was radiant with the whiteness of her skin. There were few signs of age; in fact, if you marked well the perfect harmony of her limbs, not knowing who she was, you would have said that here is a young woman, for no part of her skin was wrinkled, but all smooth and taut, and no furrows anywhere. She and basilissa Rhomaiôn Theodora of Byzantium were raised to the throne by the popular movement that caused the dethronement of Michael V on 21 April 1042 at Constantinople, Byzantine Empire.10 Zoë, basilissa Rhomaiôn married Konstantin IX Euergetes Monomachus, basileus Rhomaiôn, son of Theodosius Monomachus, on 12 June 1042 at Hagia Sophia, Constantinople, Byzantium; His 3rd.
