There are lots of uncertainties about these lines, since many records have not survived. Source materials for most things in the medieval Balkans are ususally not from contemporary writers, and the few contemporary sources existing are usually from Byzantine writers, not writers from the various states themselves. The tables I'm about to present are based on Europaeische Stammtafeln, but modified by some recent scholarship by John V. A. They met at Veggen, to the east of Sotanes; but just as they were come to the meeting place, Gudrod's men ran up and killed King Trygve and twelve men.2 Gudrødr Eiríksson was a witness where Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway proceeded northwards to Throndhjem, where they met no opposition. They levied the scat-duties, and all other revenues, and laid heavy penalties upon the bondes; for the kings had for a long time received but little income from Throndhjem in 968 at summer.2 Gudrødr Eiríksson died in 999 at summer. When King Olaf's relations, Hyrning and Thorgeir, heard of this, they gathered men, fitted out ships, and went northwards to Viken. They came in the night with their men to a place at which King Gudrod was living as a guest, and attacked him with fire and weapons; and there King Gudrod fell, and most of his followers. Of those who were wth his ships some were killed, some slipped away and fled to great distances; and now were all the sons of Eirik and Gunhild dead.3

"He was not yet born when his father was killed."1,2 He was the son of Tryggvi Óláfsson and Ástrídr Eiríksdóttir of Oprustader.1 Óláfr Tryggvason, King of Norway was born between 968 and 969. He was the successor of Håkon Mikli Sigurdsson, Ladejarl; Ruler of Norway.4 Óláfr Tryggvason, King of Norway fled with his mother, Astrid, to the court of St. Vladimir, grand prince of Kiev and of all Russia, and was trained as a Viking warrior circa 979.2 He married Thóra Haraldsdóttir, daughter of Haraldr Blåtand Gormsson, King of Denmark and Tove of the Wends, circa 985; Her 3rd.5,6,7 Óláfr Tryggvason, King of Norway first attacked England at the head of the "Danes" and exacted a tribute of 10,000 pounds of gold and silver for peace in 991.8,9,2 He was a witness where Æthelred II "the Unready", King of the English plagued by Viking attacks led by King Olaf of Norway between 991 and 994.2 Óláfr Tryggvason, King of Norway was a witness where Æthelred II "the Unready", King of the English served as Godfather when King Olaf of Norway, with whom he had reconciled, was, though already a Christian, confirmed at Andover in 994 at Hampshire, England.2 Óláfr Tryggvason, King of Norway was confirmed, though already a Christian at Andover, with Ethelred, with whom he had been reconciled, as his godfather in 994 at Hampshire, England.2 He plagued England again with his warships and ally, Sven Forkbeard, but the English put up heavy resistance, London was saved, though a tribute of 16,000 pounds was exacted in 994.9,2 King of Norway between 995 and 1000.4 He was defeated in a massive battle brought against him by Sven Forkbeard in 1000 at the Battle of Svolder. He was a witness where Óláfr Skötkonung Eiríksson, Konung av Sverige made, on Olaf Tryggvasson of Norways defeat, the long-desired western advance into the former Gautish coastal territories of Ranrike-Bohuslän and into the eastern districts of the Trondelag in 1000 at the Battle of Svolder.10 Óláfr Tryggvason, King of Norway was a witness where Sveinn Tveskaeg Haraldsson, King of Denmark and England gained, on Olaf Tryggvasson of Norways defeat, the traditional areas of Danish overlordship in the Vik, and the lasting loyalty, uncommon to the norsemen, to he and his son, from Earl Eirik Hakonsson in 1000 at the Battle of Svolder.10 Óláfr Tryggvason, King of Norway leapt, in his scarlet cloak, from the gunwale of the "Long Serpent" in Svold, to die or to live on in some other adventures, and the Kingdom of Norway broke from his hand in 1000.10 He died before 18 September 1000 at the Battle of Svolder. He met his death at the hands of the Danish king Sweyn I, the Swedish king Olaf Skötkonung, and Eric the Norwegian, earl of Lade.

He leapt from the deck of his longboat to disappear from history beneath the waves.

Halfred Vandredaskald speaks also thus about it:

"The witness who reports this thing
Of Trygvason, our gallant king,
Once served the king, and truth should tell,
For Olaf hated lies like hell.
If Olaf 'scaped from this sword-thing,
Worse fate, I fear, befel our king
Than people guess, or e'er can know,
For he was hemm'd in by the foe.
From the far east some news is rife
Of king sore wounded saving life;
His death, too sure, leaves me no care
For cobweb rumours in the air.
It never was the will of fate
That Olaf from such perilous strait
Should 'scape with life! this truth may grieve --
`What people wish they soon believe.11,2,12'"
