Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway was given the name Grafell in this manner:

"King Hakon had generally his seat in Hordaland and Rogaland, and also his brothers; but very often, also, they went to Hardanger. One summer it happened that a vessel came from Iceland belonging to Icelanders, and loaded with skins and peltry. They sailed to Hardanger, where they heard the greatest number of people assembled; but when the folks came to deal with them, nobody would buy their skins. Then the steersman went to King Harald, whom he had been acquainted with before, and complained of his ill luck. The king promised to visit him, and did so. King Harald was very condescending, and full of fun. He came with a fully manned boat, looked at the skins, and then said to the steersman, "Wilt thou give me a present of one of these gray-skins?" "Willingly," said the steersman, "if it were ever so many." On this the king wrapped himself up in a gray-skin, and went back to his boat; but before they rowed away from the ship, every man in his suite bought such another skin as the king wore for himself. In a few days so many people came to buy skins, that not half of them could be served with what they wanted; and thereafter the king was called Harald Grafeld (Grayskin)..4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway also went by the name of Harold "Graycloak". Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway also went by the name of Harald "Graypelt". He was born before 933. Thirdborn. He was baptized before 933; "... a son on whom King Harald poured water, and gave him his own name, and the promise that he should be king after his father Eirik."5 He was born after his grandfather had passed the kingdom to his father, Eirik, and was baptised by him before he died in 933.5 He was the son of Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway and Gunnhildr Konungamodír Gormsdóttir.2,3 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway was the successor of King of Norway Håkon I Adalsteinsfóstri Haraldsson; King of Norway. Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway was a witness where Haraldr Blåtand Gormsson, King of Denmark took Harald Eiriksson to be his foster-son, set him on his knee, and thereafter he was brought up at the Danish king's court circa 946.6 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway murdered his cousin, Gudrod Bjornsson, in 955. He was a witness where Gudrødr Bjørnsson, King in Vestfold chief of Vestfold on Harald Grafelds taking the throne of Norway in 960.4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway launched an attack, with a great army from Denmark, and his brothers and also their mother's brothers, -- Eyvind Skreyja, and Alf Askman, both strong and able men, and great man slayers, and brought this force against his uncle Hakon in 960 at Fitjar, on the island Stord, Hordaland, Norway. He was a witness where King of Norway Håkon I Adalsteinsfóstri Haraldsson at a feast in Hordaland in the house at Fitjar on the island Stord, and he had with him at the feast his court and many of the peasants. And just as the king was seated at the supper-table, his watchmen who were outside observed many ships coming sailing along from the south, and not very far from the island, the son's of Eirik Bloodaxe and their two uncles, had come to attack in 960 at Fitjar, on the island Stord, Hordaland, Norway.6 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway was a witness where Sigurdr Håkonsson, Ladejarl Earl of Hlader in the Throndhjem land when Harald Graycloak took the throne of Norway in 960.4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway was a witness where Tryggvi Óláfsson chief in the Eastland when Harald Graycloak took the throne of Norway in 960.4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway was a witness where Eyvind Finsson (?) the skald of King Harald Graycloak after 960.4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway killed and succeeded his uncle, Haakon, to the throne of Norway in 960.4 He was a witness where Sigurdr Håkonsson, Ladejarl concluded a treaty between the new kings of Norway, Eirik's sons, and the earl, confirmed by oath, in which Sigurd was to get the same power in the Throndhjem land which he had possessed under King Hakon, and on that they considered themselves at peace circa 961.4 King of Norway between 961 and 970.3 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway witnessed the death of Sigurdr Håkonsson, Ladejarl in 962 at Oglo; The earl usually had many people about him, for he did not trust the king; but now, after friendly messages had passed between the king and him, he had no great following of people with him. Then Grjotgard sent word to the king that he could never expect a better opportunity to fall upon Earl Sigurd; and immediately, that very evening, Harald and Erling sailed into Throndhjem fjord with several ships and many people. They sailed all night by starlight, and Grjotgard came out to meet them. Late in the night they came to Oglo, where Earl Sigurd was at the feast, and set fire to the house; and burnt the house, the earl, and all his men. Earl Sigurd was killed two years after the fall of King Hakon (A.D. 962).

So says Eyvind Skaldaspiller in the "Haleygjatal": --

"At Oglo. as I've heard, Earl Sigurd
Was burnt to death by Norway's lord, --
Sigurd, who once on Hadding's grave
A feast to Odin's ravens gave.
In Oglo's hall, amidst the feast,
When bowls went round and ale flowed fast,
He perished: Harald lit the fire
Which burnt to death the son of Tyr."4,7
Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway was a witness where Governor of Möre Grjótgardr Håkonsson was met by King Harald and his mother Gunnhilda and treated well, so much so that he agreed to betray his brother Sigurd in exchange for the earldom of Hlader.4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway he was joined by his brother Gudrod, after his brother had killed Trygve Olafsson, and together they subdued all Viken in 963 at summer.4 He set out to make a viking cruise, with his brother Gudrod, but they argued and went separate ways in 963 at springtime.4 He witnessed the death of Gudrødr Bjørnsson, King in Vestfold in 963 at springtime; King Harald heard that Gudrod Bjornson was at a feast a little way up the country. Then King Harald set out immediately with his followers, came in the night, and surrounded the house. King Gudrod Bjornson went out with his people; but after a short resistance he fell, and many men with him.4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway sailed far outside of the rocks and isles; and then set his course to Viken, and came in the night-time to Tunsberg, and heard that Gudrod Bjornson was at a feast a little way up the country, and killed him in 963 at springtime.4 He was a witness where Håkon Mikli Sigurdsson, Ladejarl at last able to conclude peace with Harald, and was given the same power in the Throndhjem land which his father Earl Sigurd had enjoyed; and the kings, on the other hand, should have the same dominion as King Hakon had: and this agreement was settled with the fullest promises of fidelity to it in 965.4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway was went with his brother Sigurd and their troops north to Bjarmaland, where be forayed, and fought a great battle with the inhabitants on the banks of the Vina (Dwina). He gained the victory, killed many people, plundered and wasted and burned far and wide in the land, and made enormous booty in 965 at summer.4 He was a witness where Håkon Mikli Sigurdsson, Ladejarl enjoyed peace with his King, Harald Grafell between 966 and 968.4 Haraldr Gráfeldr Eiríksson, King of Norway gathered together a great army, with his brothers Gudrod and Erling, in the east country, with which they set out northwards to Throndhjem in 968.4 He proceeded northwards to Throndhjem, where they met no opposition. They levied the scat-duties, and all other revenues, and laid heavy penalties upon the bondes; for the kings had for a long time received but little income from Throndhjem in 968 at summer.4 He went south with the greater part of the men-at-arms, but left his brother Erlin behind with his men in 968 at autumn.4 He died in 970. He was killed in battle by the forces of Haakon (later Haakon the Great), son of the earl of Lade, with the connivance of Harald Bluetooth, some of whose Norwegian holdings had been appropriated by Harald.3
