Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway was the most beloved and honoured by King Harald of all his sons.3 He was a stout handsome man, strong, and very manly, -- a great and fortunate man of war; but bad-minded, gruff, unfriendly, and silent.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway also went by the name of Eric I "Bloodaxe" of Norway. He was born circa 895. He was the son of Haraldr Hårfager Hálfdanarson, King of Norway and Ragnhild "the Mighty" Eiríksdóttir.2,3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway was taken, following his mother's death, to the herse Thorer Hroaldson, and Eirik was fostered by him in the Fjord district circa 898.3 He was a witness where Haraldr Hårfager Hálfdanarson, King of Norway bestowed Halogaland and North More, and Raumsdal on Eirik, whom he loved and regarded most of all his sons in 900.3 King in 900.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway was twelve years old when King Harald gave him five long-ships, with which he went on an expedition, -- first in the Baltic; then southwards to Denmark, Friesland, and Saxland; on which expedition he passed four years. He then sailed out into the West sea and plundered in Scotland, Bretland, Ireland, and Valland, and passed four years more in this way. Then he sailed north to Finmark, and all the way to Bjarmaland, where he had many a battle, and won many a victory between 907 and 915.3 He witnessed the death of King of Hadaland Rögnvaldr Rettilbeinn Haraldsson; King Harald was a hater of all witchcraft. and his son, King Eirik Blood-axe, went by his orders to the Uplands, and came to Hadeland and burned his brother Ragnvald in a house, along with eighty other warlocks; which work was much praised.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway found a girl in a Lapland hut, in Finmark, whose equal for beauty he had never seen, she said her name was Gunhild, and that her father dwelt in Halogaland, and was called Ozur Tote, and she said "I am here to learn sorcery from two of the most knowing Fins in all Finmark," but that Eirik should have her if he could kill the two Finns, which he did circa 922.3 He married Gunnhildr Özurrsdóttir of Halogaland, daughter of Özurr Tote of Halogaland, in 922; His 1st.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway witnessed the death of Bjórn Kyoband Haraldsson, King of Vestfold circa 927 at Saeheim; Murdered by his brother, Erik Bloodaxe, after quarrelling over provisions he was to supply him, after the tax that he wished to deliver directly to his father. In the night
Eirik came back after Bjorn, and came to Saeheim just as Bjorn and his men were seated at table drinking. Eirik surrounded the house in which they were; but Bjorn with his men went out and fought. Bjorn, and many men with him, fell. Eirik, on the other hand, got a great booty, and proceeded northwards. But this work was taken very ill by the people of Viken, and Eirik was much disliked for it; and the report went that King Olaf would avenge his brother Bjorn, whenever opportunity offered.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway married Gunnhildr Konungamodír Gormsdóttir, daughter of Gormr Gamle, King of Denmark and Tyra of Wessex, circa 928; His 2nd(?).4,3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway was a witness where Anti-King of Norway Hálfdan Svarti Haraldsson heard of that his fraticidal brother, Erik Bloodaxe was near, and he set out with his men, and surrounded the house in which Erik and his men were, but Eirik slept in a room which stood detached by itself, and he escaped into the forest with four others; but Halfdan and his men burnt the main house, with all the people who were in it, and on Erik's reporting this to their father, earned his anger.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway was a witness where Anti-King of Norway Óláfr Geirstadaalf Haraldsson vowed to avenge the death of his brother, Bjorn Kaupman at the hands of his half-brother, Eirik Bloodaxe.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway was a witness where Anti-King of Norway Hálfdan Svarti Haraldsson refused to acknowledge Eirik as High-King of all Norway, and also took a king's high-seat, and took all Throndhjem land, with the consent of all the people, under his rule as upper king.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway earned his name, "Bloodaxe," by murdering seven of his eight half brothers.5 He was a witness where Haraldr Hårfager Hálfdanarson, King of Norway eighty years of age when he became very heavy, and unable to travel through the country, or do the business of a king, and so he brought his son Eirik to his high-seat, and gave him the power and command over the whole land, in 930.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway succeeded his father to the throne of Norway in 930. King of Norway between 930 and 935.2,5 He took all the revenues, which the king had in the middle of the country, the next winter after King Harald's decease, but his brother Olaf took all the revenues eastward in Viken, and his other brother Sigrod all that of the Throndhjem country, in 934.3 He was the predecessor of King of Norway Håkon I Adalsteinsfóstri Haraldsson; King of Norway. Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway witnessed the death of King of Throndhjem Sigfrod Haraldsson in 934 at the spring of, Tunsberg; Olaf and Sigrod, with their forces, went out of the town a little eastward to a ridge, where they drew up their men in battle order; but as Eirik had many more men he won the battle, and both brothers fell to their half-brother, Eirik.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway witnessed the death of Anti-King of Norway Óláfr Geirstadaalf Haraldsson in 934 at the spring of, Tunsberg; Olaf and Sigrod, with their forces, went out of the town a little eastward to a ridge, where they drew up their men in battle order; but as Eirik had many more men he won the battle, and both brothers fell to their half-brother, Eirik.3 Eiríkr Blóðøks Haraldsson, King of Norway was deposed by his brother, Haakon, in 935. He was elected to the kingship of York following a period of English rule starting in 944 and ending in 948. King of York between 948 and 949.6 He visited the shrine of St Cuthbert as many Kings traditionally did in 952 at Chester le Street, England. King of York, restored between 952 and 954.6 Rise of England - Eric Bloodaxe defeated and killed by a Saxon force. In 954 at Stainmore, near Edendale, Westmoreland, England.7 He died in 954 at the bleak moors of Stainmore, Teesdale. A descendant of Northumbria's Anglo-Saxon kings called Oswulf plotted against Eric. Supported by the King of Wessex, Oswulf employed an agent to murder Bloodaxe and on Eric's death the King of Wessex, Edred, became King of all England. The north thereafter lost its independence for good.5 He failed at ruling the English, his court at York was an anachronism, pagan, and un-English, and he was driven out for the last time in 954.8 He died in 954 at Stainmore, near Edendale, Westmoreland, England. Attacked a Saxon army near Stainmore, but his army was crushed, and he was killed.7
