William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke was Lord of Raglan, an estate he derived from Maud, his grandmother, daughter and heiress of Sir John Morley, Knt. At Monmouthshire.2 He was a leading Yorkist in War of Roses.1 Arms: Per pale, azure and gules, three lions rampant argent, a border, componee, or, and the 2nd bezantee.3 He appears in Henry VI, part 3 by Shakespeare.1 William was summoned to parliament on 26 July 1461 as Baron Herbert of Herbert.2 He was nominated into the Order of the Garter, #190, on 21 March 1461/62.4 He was created Earl of Pembroke on 8 September 1468.2 He died on 27 July 1469 at Oxfordshire, England, at age 46 years. He was captured by Lancastrians and beheaded at Banbury.1 William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke was buried in Tintern Abbey.1
