     Lord of Bourne Hereward "the Wake" of Bourne was the son of Lord of Bourne Leofric of Bourne and Ediva (?).¹ Lord of Bourne Hereward "the Wake" of Bourne was an Anglo-Saxon rebel against William the Conqueror and the hero of many Norman and English legends.² He was the hero of Charles Kingsley's last novel, Hereward the Wake, written in 1866.² Bear in mind, of course, that the descent from Hereward "the Wake" is mainly traditional and undocumented. Searle wrote thus on page xi of his
Introduction: "To fill up page 461 a pedigree of Hereward's family has been added, partly on account of the writer's work on Ingulf, and partly on account
