     Göngu-Hrólf Rögnvaldsson was often (but dubiously) identified with Rollo of Normandy.⁵ Göngu-Hrólf Rögnvaldsson also went by the name of Walker Rolf.³ Rollo I of Normandy is not the Gongu-Hrolf of Icelandic Saga fame. Rollo is of unknown parentage. He was born circa 860 at Maer, Norway.³ He was the son of Rögnvaldr Eysteinsson, Mørejarl and Ragnhild Hrolfsdotter of Norway.^3,4 Göngu-Hrólf Rögnvaldsson was a great viking, and was of so stout a growth that no horse could carry him, and wheresoever he went he must go on foot; and therefore he was called Rolf Ganger.⁴ He plundered much in the East sea. One summer, as he was coming from the eastward on a viking's expedition to the coast of Viken, he landed there and made a cattle foray. As King Harald happened, just at that time, to be in Viken, he heard of it, and was in a great rage; for he had forbid, by the greatest punishment, the plundering within the bounds of the country.      Of Konrad (III)’s daughters either Ita – wife of Radbot of Habsburg – or Adelheid – wife of Liuthar of Stade – could previously have been married to Gozelo. A passage in the Acta Murensia seems to support the identity of Ita:

"She wavered and pondered up and down, whether to return [Muri] to the heirs, but not knowing where they were, or even if they were available whether her husband [Radbot] would permit it."

Ita’s confusion concerning the heirs of her property and her apprehension about her husband’s stance is precisely what one would expect after an annulment, a second marriage, and a reversal of the original annulment. The name Ita occurs among Gozelo’s grandchildren, while the name Adelheid does not.¹ Ita von Ortenau was born circa 980?.
