He was the son of Gregory-Derenik, Prince of Vaspurakan and Sophia Bagratuni.2,3,4 Xach'ik I, arkhon ton arkhonton married Mlk'e, Queen, daughter of Gregoire-Abouhamza.7 Xach'ik I, arkhon ton arkhonton was installed as king by Yusuf, the Ostikan of the Caliph in 908.6,8 He established the medieval Armenian Kingdom of Vaspurakan in 908 at Anatolia.5 He made a favorable impression on the ostikan Yusuf, successor to Awshin, and after Yusuf captured the Bagratid king Smbat, "only Gagik could rule and control Armenia" and Yusuf raised Gagik to royal status in 908.2,8,6 King of Vaspurakan at southeastern Anatolia between 908 and 937.9,10 He campaigned with Yusuf against Smbat, King of Armenia, in 910.8 He was a witness where Smbat I "the Martyr", King of Armenia attacked by Yusuf and Gagik, King of Vaspurakan, in 910.8 Xach'ik I, arkhon ton arkhonton was patron of the building of the church of Surp Khach (Holy Cross) between 915 and 921 at Lake Van, on the island of Aght’amar, Anatolia.5 "He built on the island of Aght'amar in the Bznunik' Sea [ Lake Van] a royal city and church of astonishing, radiant construction."4 He was the only Armenian king who offered strength, security, and reliability in the mid 920's.11 He extended Artsruni power, with his brother Gurgen, northwards towards Mount Ararat and south to the basin of the Bohtan Su.11 He was granted by Byzantium King Ashot II's title Archon of Archons, the greek equivalent of Prince of Princes, in 925.11 He was a witness where Ašot II Erkat', Shahanshah of Armenia lost the title granted by Byzantium, Archon of Archons (Prince of Princes) to Gagik Artsruni, King of Vaspurakan, in 925.11 Xach'ik I, arkhon ton arkhonton was the predecessor of Derenik-Ašot, King of Vaspurakan; King of Vaspurakan.
