Ancestors of Richard G. Boyd

1.  Capt. James Boyd 1669-17?? was a younger son of William, 1st Earl of Kilmarnock. James served with the Scottish Dutch Brigade 1690-1703. He is believed to have lived in Northern Ireland at a place called Knock-A-Vaddy Rock in County Tyrone after his service in the Brigade.  Three of his sons; James, William, and John went to New England 1720's perhaps part of the Scotch-Irish emigration which began in 1718  (Arthur S. Boyd Jr's "The Boyd Family" published in 1924). A fourth son Samuel is reported to have stayed in Ireland. (History of the Scot's Dutch Brigade, 3 Vols, 1899, 1900, 1901, published by the Scottish Historical Society, Edinburgh)

6.  Richard Boyd, son of Luther and Eliza Ann was born 1861 in Delaware, Ohio. He married Phoebe Elnora WESTBROOK (from VA) in 1881. They moved to Peru, Indiana at turn of the century.

7. George Sylvester Boyd, son of Richard and Elnora was born in 1884. He married Mary Catherine HARRIS in 1906. George was an engineer and followed the oil fields in Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas at the early part of the century. They came to Michigan where the Harris relatives lived during the Great Depression and remained.

His son 8. Mancell Lee Boyd [my father] was born 1912 in Rodessa, Caddo Parish, Louisiana.  In 1936 he married Wava HAMMOND born 1919 in Ashley, Michigan.  He worked at a defense factory in Saginaw, Michigan during WW II and died in 1973.

I have been researching my Boyd family for nearly 20 years.  I am trying to find proof of the kinship between Capt. James Boyd 1669-17?? and his son John Boyd (above.)
