I am having a terrible time finding the parents of Louise BRECHT, born about 1879, who married Johan Phillip KOCH on 29 Aug 1895. They settled in Ridgefield Township where Johann dies in 1928. On his Ohio death certificate it states that he and Louise were divorced by 1928. I cannot find Loiuse's death record, probably because she remarried and I don't have the new husband's name. On the birth records for her children, I find her maiden name given as BRECHT, BRACHT, BRETZ, as well as SCHEID and SCHIRD. I have checked the FamilySearch and Ancestry sites with no luck to date. Is there a listing, index or site anywhere for Huron County marriages, other than the above? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lady Bonita Look Up Results-- I see from the marriage record that both Louise and John Philip were born in Germany. There is a Louise BRECHT that married a Robert ARMSTRONG ... no year but born 1878. Have you checked the obituaries of the two children: Minnie and William F KOCH? I might indicate when the mother died and if she was remarried.

I found two WELLS children who were listed on the 1850 Mortality Census.. would like to know more- Parents, burial, etc.? George WELLS, age 5, died Sep 1849 in Norwalk, Huron Co., OH, scarlet fever, sick for 14 days. Fonce WELLS, age 6 months, died Sep 1849 in Norwalk, Huron Co., OH, scarlet fever, sick for 4 days. It appears they may have been siblings as they are recorded together on the mortality census. I do not see them listed on the Huron Co., cemetery index. Fence may have actually been Fones ... which causes me interest as my James Fones WELLS b 1814 NY, parents James and Persis (EARLE) WELLS moved to Huron/Erie Co., OH before 1830. He married a Sarah HOLMES in Monroeville 2 Feb 1844 , but appears to have deserted her after April 1850 and married(?) a widow, Mary (WATERS) COBAUGH in Clarion Co. or Jefferson Co., PA. I wonder if these may have been their children? I thought about checking cemetery sexton records to find the two WELLS children who died Sep 1849 of scarlet fever since I cannot find them on the HCC cemetery index. Where can I find the cemeteries located in Norwalk Township (probably Monroeville) and addresses of sexton?

I'll be in Norwalk late next week (for the VAN SCOY-KNAPP reunion) and would like to check local sources for information on my great(4)-grandfather Brundage KNAPP. (I was born in Norwalk and grew up in Greenwich but now live out of state.) I plan to look for an estate file and for land records. Can any of you suggest other records I might look for? What I'd most like to prove are that (1) he is the father of Mary P KNAPP who married Abraham VANSCOY (my great(3)-grandparents) in New York in 1811 and (2) he served from New York in the War of 1812 but I'd be pleased to learn anything new about him. Most of the information that I have on Brundage KNAPP comes from unsourced handwritten notebooks in the files of the VAN SCOY-KNAPP reunion, organized in 1907. Although the family reunion records indicate that Brundage KNAPP was married five times we have found documentation of only the last three marriages. In 1833 and 1837 land transactions in Huron County, Ohio, his wife is listed as Elizabeth. A secondary source, Memorial to the Pioneer Women of the Western Reserve, gives the maiden name of Mrs. Brundage KNAPP as Ester MEAD. His 1841 marriage to Betsey HAINES is recorded in Huron County. The 1850 census lists Brundage age 77 with Betsey age 54 and Edward 23 in Bronson Township, Huron County. Brundage KNAPP's obituary in the 17 April 1866 Norwalk Reflector newspaper says he was born in Putnam County, New York, moved to Huron County, Ohio, in 1828, and died in Fairfield 27 March 1866 at age 93 years. That would give a year of birth for him of about 1773. Putnam County was formed from Dutchess County in 1812. (There is a small set of sources, census records (ex. 1880 census record of daughter Mary PECK) and secondary sources (ex. biography of grandson Abel B. KNAPP in 1883 Mecosta County, Michigan), that say he was born in Massachusetts.) Norwalk [Ohio] Reflector Newspaper, Page: Vol 37 No 17 p 3 Col2, Date 17 Apr 1866. "DIED In Fairfield, on the 27th ult, Brundage KNAPP, aged 93 years. he was born in Putnam county, N. Y., from whence he removed to this county in 1828" History of the Fire Lands, comprising Huron and Erie Counties, Ohio by W. W. Williams, 1879, says "Brundage KNAPP, who came in the year 1825, and located upon lot twenty-four, section three, removed in 1836, to Bronson, and went from there to Fairfield." Although no cemetery monument for Brundage KNAPP exists, the sexton's records for the Fitchville Cemetery as abstracted in the published cemetery records of Huron County, Ohio, say he was buried there. I have examined the U.S. census records 1790-1880 for males named Brundage KNAPP. I believe that 6 distinct individuals appear in these records and that "my" Brundage KNAPP was living in the following areas at each year-- 1820 Somers, Westchester County, New York; 1830 Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio; 1850 Bronson Township, Huron County, Ohio; 1860 Fairfield Township, Huron County, Ohio. The name Brundage KNAPP appears on land in Bronson, Greenwich, and Hartland townships in the 1845 Huron County, Ohio, plat book. https://sites.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron/platmap.htm. A land record links the Brundage KNAPP of Somers, New York, with the Brundage KNAPP of Huron County, Ohio. John OWEN and wife, Anna, of Somers, NY deeded land in Huron Co, Ohio, to Brundage KNAPP 4 September 1827 in Westchester Co, NY. Brundage recorded the deed in Huron Co 26 May 1836 (LDS Film #396150 Old 11 page 228)

If someone on this list has a copy of the Ridgefield Township section of Pioneer Women of the Western Reserve, could you check whether Lydia FISH is mentioned? http://www.wmgs.org/research/WesternReserve.htm has information about this work. (I have a copy of the section for Greenwich Township.) Lydia VANSCOY, daughter of Abraham VANSCOY and his wife Mary KNAPP, was born 28 February 1813 in Dutchess County, New York. She moved with her parents to Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio. She married John FISH 13 October 1833 in Huron County. From Williams History of the Firelands, 1879, p. 258-- http://openlibrary.org/books/OL6582247M/History_of_the_Fire_lands_comprising_Huron_and_Erie_Counties_Ohio_with_illustrations_and_biographical_sketches_of_some_of_the_prominent_men_and_pioneers. "John FISH came from Licking county, Ohio, to Peru, [Huron County, Ohio] in about 1822. In 1825 he settled on lot number seven in Ridgefield township, and this farm is still owned by his heirs. His first wife was Jane Gamble, by whom the following children were born: Aurora B., Sidney D., Gordon W., Edwin, Mary J., and Sarah A. Mrs. Fish died June 6, 1832, and he married Lydia VAN SCOY, who is still living. The children by this marriage are: Platt C., James G., John W., Celia, Judson D., and Ida, all living. Mr. FISH died September 13, 1866." John, Jane, and Lydia FISH are buried in the North Monroeville Cemetery.

Thanks for checking. I was hoping there'd be one of those wonderful short biographies for her in the Ridgefield article. I'm in the process of requesting permission from the United States Daughters of 1812 to mark her grave, probably in 2013, as a daughter of someone who served in the War of 1812. So, I'm trying to reconstruct the details of her life. I've learned recently that Lydia VAN SCOY and her father-in-law Ephraim FISH were both born in Dutchess County, New York. She and John FISH married in 1833 (he was a widower with several children) in Huron County. Both Lydia's father Abraham VAN SCOY and her husband John FISH served in the War of 1812. John and Lydia FISH's oldest child Platt Cinton FISH was born in 1835 in Ridgefield Township, Huron County. He married Araidne Radcliffe in 1860 in Erie County. Their daughters were born in 1863 and 1865 in Portland, Oregon, but they were back in Ridgefield township by the 1870 census, possibly because his father died in 1866.
