There is a reference to a newspaper (I think) that is supposed to have an obituary for Elizabeth LYON. The reference says "The Ohio Liberal" 30 May 1877 Vol 5 #7 p 1. How could I find a copy of this?

Could anyone do a look-up in the special census for George Marshall DILLON and his wife, Jennie (Jane) S. (OGIER) DILLON? In the 1880 census they were in Chicago Junction. Could you also check the 1890 census for them?

Dave, Do you have a MAYNARD connection in Surrey, England or bordering counties? I've just finished transcribing an old MAYNARD will for a woman who lives in Australia, but originally was from England.

David Maynard Look Up Results - I can't really answer your question. I can not get behind a John MAYNARD born in Lyme, or East Haddam, CT in 1757.

Can anyone confirm that the John CROW from the Robert & Lucene PARKER family was married in Indiana or died in St. Louis? Does anyone have a picture of anyone in the family? John's son, Maurice, and his family lived in Willard for a short time when my dad went to 1st grade (about 1927) so there may be some memories. I am trying to confirm that my great grandfather, John Everett CROW, is the same John CROW that was part of the Robert & Lucene PARKER CROW family that lived in Huron County. My John CROW married Elizabeth (Lizzie) SINGLER in Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana on 07 Feb 1888. He had 2 children, Gertrude and Maurice CROW. Lizzie & John were divorced in DeKalb county in May 1912. He died in St. Louis 17 Dec 1914. His death certificate says his parents were John CROW and Jennie PARKER from England and he was born 17 Aug 1858. When he died he had pictures of people who we supposed were his family and a newspaper notice for the marriage said he was from Decatur IL and that is where they were going to live. The 1900 census shows them living in Garrett Indiana. The 1910 census shows John in St. Louis and Elizabeth and the kids living with her parents in Garrett. From my Grandfather's personal recollection his father had 2 sisters in Columbus named Jennie & Mary. I have found a Jennie SCHNEIDER and a Mary NIEDERLEIN who had parents of Robert and Lucene PARKER CROW in Columbus. Other children listed in census records are Ira, Rachael, Sarah, Delphine, and Frank CROW. I have census records for the family in 1850 in Norwich Twp, 1860 in New Haven Twp, 1870 with the four youngest living with David & Lucinda Hodges as a domestic and farm hand. Also, I have found a listing in the Grave Records of Huron County published in 1968 that shows a John CROW, Robert & Lucene CROW buried in Stuben Cemetery. I do not show where this cemetery is, can anyone help? Before I can say for certain that this is John's family, I would like confirmation from the other side of the family. If anyone can help, please let me know.

According to the Ohio 1870 census, North Fairfield, Huron County, my great-grandmother, Frances Ann STEVENS, aged 19, and her 16 year old sister, Mary, [daughters of Daniel S. and Ann Elizabeth (CHITTENDEN) STEVENS] were teaching school. Are there any records to verify that these young ladies did indeed teach school? Where ? When ? Subjects ?

Ken Shute Look Up Results - I checked our Huron County, OH publications for any reference to your Frances and Mary STEVENS forebears as teachers in a North Fairfield, OH, school ca 1870 without success, but I did find some references to the school system there about that time that might prove of interest should you find the link. If you can furnish me the married names of these two ladies, I'd be happy to check for them under their married names. 1. From the History of the Firelands, Comprising Huron and Erie Counties, Ohio, by W.W. Williams, 1879- Page 357, Chapter on Fairfield Township, Huron County, OH, under "Schools." "The main school building was built in the year 1851, and cost, with the lot upon which it stands, twelve hundred dollars. Several years later, two wings were added, which largely increased the capacity of the building. The whole property is now (1879) valued at about three thousand dollars." (Following is a list of previous school superintendents, then the following)- "E.W. Coit, the present (superintendent) was placed in authority in 1877. His assistants at the present time are Miss Hattie Brown and Miss Flora Fairchlld, teachers, respectively, of the primary and intermediate departments. The primary school has about fifty pupils; the intermediate forty-five, and the high school forty." 2. On page 95 of our Huron County, Ohio, A Pictorial History, published by the Norwalk Reflector, 1993, are three pictures of the old Fairfield Township, Ohio schools.
