I'm looking for the burial dates and places for Benjamin WILLIAMS and his wife Sarah (PURDY). I have them in the 1850 Bronson Twp. census living next to Heman HULL. Benjamin and Sarah are living with their sons Giles age 26, and Dan G. age 21. They were all born in New York. I have reason to believe my ancestor Martin PURDY WILLIAMS, b. 1821 in Cayuga Co. NY is their son. Martin married Salinda Arvilla HICKS in Huron Co., had at least one child in Huron Co. and moved to Michigan. Salinda's mothers name was Eliza HULL. I have information of an Ira HULL connected to Eliza's husband Frederick HICKS in Bronson Co. Something to do with land, I think. I'm trying to connect Eliza to Heman and Ira, find her parentage as well as the local history of Benjamin and Sarah.

Date posted: Tuesday, March 6, 2007

George Leon WHITE, the first child of Amasa WHITE, Jr. and Lydia Abia TAYLOR was born October 10, 1860, in Lynn Township, Huron County, Ohio. The marriage record for George shows that he was from Weston, Wood County, Ohio. Around 1892, George WHITE traveled on the narrow gauge to Florida with a "Magic Lantern show". We know that he was in Cedar Keys, Florida on April 27, 1893. George Leon WHITE died January 1, 1917, at Morrison, Route 3, Coffee County, Tennessee, and is buried at Shady Grove cemetery, Coffee County, Tennessee. Morrison is in Warren County, Tennessee, but their home was in Coffee County. Laura Ann CARRICO was graduated from Blackburn University in 1886, and George Leon WHITE was graduated from Blackburn University in 1888. On June 11, 1888, a license was taken out and George Leon WHITE married Laura Ann CARRICO, born November 24, 1865, at Chesterfield, Macoupin County, Illinois, on June 19, 1888, with E. D. Wilkin, Minister with the Illinois conference of M. E. Churches, officiating. Witnesses were John A. CARRICO and Clara Syannres (difficult to read the signature on the certificate). The name should have been DeGroff. Laura Ann (CARRICO) White died October 20, 1948, Morrison, Route 3, Coffee County, Tennessee, and is buried at Shady Grove, Coffee County, Tennessee. I am interested in corresponding with anyone who is researching this WHITE line.

Amasa WHITE, Jr., the sixth child of Amasa Daniel WHITE and Martha (Polly) TYLER was born September 9, 1838, at Sandy Creek, Oswego County, New York, appears in 1840 and 1850 living in Sandy Creek, with his mother and family. Amasa WHITE, Jr., married Lydia Abia TAYLOR, September 25, 1859, and in June, 1860, is found living in the household of his older brother, Dennis WHITE, in Monroeville, Lynn Township, Huron County, Ohio, where their first child, George Leon DeBourney WHITE was born. Lydia Abia TAYLOR was the daughter of Jeremiah TAYLOR and Amanda Isabel PRESLER, who thus far have been located in Ellisburgh, Jefferson County, New York, in 1840, and in Sandy Creek, Oswego County, New York, from 1845 to 1865. According to the record left to us by George Leon WHITE, Jeremiah TAYLOR and Amanda Isabel PRESLER moved to Ohio in 1866. Amasa WHITE, Jr., died July 6, 1916, at Deerfield, Lenawee County, Michigan, and was reported to have been buried in Plain cemetery, Tontogany, Wood County, Ohio. We were able to secure a Death Certificate from Lenawee County, Michigan, for Amasa WHITE, Jr., but it did not verify the burial place. If you are familiar with either of these folks, I would like to correspond with you.

I am trying to locate family members of my Mary GARRY. She was born in Ireland sometime about 1838 and married Terrence MARTIN in Huron Co., Ohio on 17 August 1859. They are found in the 1860 Huron County census, where his occupation is listed as blacksmith. Terrence and Mary moved to Ft. Wayne, Allen County, Indiana sometime about the mid 1860's. I am hoping to find the names of Mary GARRY's siblings or parents. While researching my Mary GARRY on familysearch.com I found these other Huron County GARRYs-- 1. Thomas GARRY married Mary MULLAN on 21 Oct 1861. 2. Patrick GARRY married Mary TIMMIN (?) on 28 Oct 1863.

Thanks for the information on the SHOE/ FREDERICK/ NILSON marriages. Would there be any directories, land records or any other documents that might show any SHOE people? Our Josephine SHOE and Joseph FREDERICK arrived in New York in Jan 1854 and were married in Feb 1854 in Huron County,. It seems as though one or both of their families might have been in the area prior to their marriage. It seems as though they would not have come to Huron County unless other family members were already there.

I've been researching the family of Spencer BAKER of North Fairfield and located his son, Lewis Foote BAKER. Lewis was born 5 May 1943 in Huron County and married Flora Helen RANDALL in 1863. He had a daughter Carrie, b. 1863 and a son, Either Frank L. or Louis Spencer, b. 9 (or 29) June 1873 in Huron County. Lewis and family moved to Hillsdale, MI sometime after Spencer BAKER died. Mother, Betsey BAKER, is listed in the 1880 Census with Lewis. Flora died in 1878 and is buried in Cambria, Hillsdale County, MI. Betsey is also buried there. Lewis moved to Topeka KS after WW 1, where Carrie and he lived with Carrie's daughter. Lewis died in Topeka 7 Oct 1936 at 93 years old. The Obit list him as having a son, Louis, of Hawley, TX. This is Louis Spencer BAKER who is my G-grandfather. This is where I need help. I need to find a birth record in Huron County for Louis. In the 1880 census he is listed as Frank L. BAKER so the record could be under either Louis or Frank.
