David C. Maynard Look Up Results - I may be able to help a little. I guess you could call DICKSON a collateral line for me. Lorinda Mary PALMER was the second wife of my gg-father, David T. MAYNARD. They married August 6, 1865 in Huron County and had one child, Diana Maude MAYNARD. Diana was born 24 June 1868 in Ripley Twp and died 29 May 1924 in the county infirmary in Norwalk. Lorinda Mary PALMER had previously been married to Stephen DICKSON. She was born 29 August 1827 in NY. Stephen was born July 1915 in PA, died 16 January 1864 and is buried in Edwards Grove Cemetery in Ripley Twp. They were married in Huron County, 25 October 1847. They had 3 children- Leander W. DICKSON, b. 23 August 1848 in Ripley Twp., D. 5 March 1858 in Ripley Twp., buried in Edwards Grove Cemetery; Leona M. DICKSON, b. May 1860 in Ripley Twp. And Leola M. DICKSON b. 1862? in Ripley Twp. Lorinda died 2 January 1893 and is buried with her son and Stephen DICKSON in Edwards Grove Cemetery. Her estate states that she is survived by 3 daughters- Leona ROGERS, Leola FERRIS and Maud MAYNARD.

I would be interested in the line of David MAYNARD. Did Lorinda and David have children as well? Am I reading correctly that Maud is their only child? Do you have your tree posted anywhere on the web? Mine is at www.genealogy.com/users/m/e/e/Randi-Meentzen/. I have other PALMERs in my line and would like to learn more about Lorindas line.

In 1982 Melwood Van Scoyoc published the first volume of his three volume work Descendants of Cornelis Aertsen Van Schaick. According to Van Scoyoc, (1) Selon VAN SCOY was the son of Abraham VAN SCOY and his wife Mary KNAPP. (2) Selon and his twin brother Helon were born about 1818 in Westchester County, New York. The twin died at a young age. [I think he is buried in the Cat Ridge Baptist cemetery, North Salem, Westchester County, New York.] (3) "Selon, sometimes spelled Ceylon, owned a farm on Ninevah Road in Huron County, Ohio. Abraham and Mary lived there with the younger children. After Selon's death the farm went to his younger brother, Bishop K. Selon was a Union soldier in the Civil War from Ohio." [It would have been difficult for a man who died in 1845 to serve in the Civil War! I believe this statement refers to a second brother named Helon.] (4) Selon's father, Abraham VAN SCOY, died in 1849. The published cemetery records of Huron County, Ohio, show Selon VAN SCOY as dying 2 June 1845 and being buried in the Nineveh Cemetery, Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio. ( The only VAN SCOY or similar entry in the 1845 plat book is for C. VANSCOY, New London. I believe this is Cornelius VAN SCOY, whom Melwood Van Scoyoc says is a first cousin of Abraham VAN SCOY (father of Selon). The 1850 census of Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio, shows 1162 1182 Mary VANSCOY, 55, F, NY. George, 27, M, farmer, Ohio. Abram, 23, M, farmer, Ohio. Harriet, 20, F, Penn. Bishop, 17, M, farmer, Ohio. Helen, 14, F, Ohio [I think this is a male, Helon, who died while serving in the Civil War]. Hannah, 11, F, Ohio. The 1860 census of Greenwich Township shows 1097 1009 Bishop VANSCOY, 27, m. Rachel, 21, f. Judson, 1, m. 1098 1010. Polly Vanscoy, 65, f. Healon, 23, m. The 1870 census of Greenwich Township shows 100 102 Bishop VANSCOY, 37, m, farmer, 5000, 800, Ohio. Rachel, 35, f, keeping house Ohio. Judson, 11, m, at school, Ohio. Clara, 5, f, at school, Ohio. Ida, 1/12, f, Ohio, b May. Mary, 75, f, no occupation, New York. The 1880 census of Greenwich Township shows B K VANSCOY, 47, farmer, Ohio, NY, NY. Rachel A, 45, wife, keeping house, Ohio, NY, Va. Judson L, 21, son, farmer, Ohio, Ohio. Clara, 14, daughter, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. Ida M, 10, daughter, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. Allie C, 17, daughter, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio [I'll have to recheck this one. I may have mistranscribed it]. Mary P, 85, mother, NY, NY, NY. Are there any published land or estate records that could help me identify whether Selon VAN SCOY owned land in Huron County in the 1840s? Are the old county records still at the courthouse in downtown Norwalk? https://sites.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron/court.html I have a vague memory that some records might have been moved to the old Norwalk Truckline building.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - On page 481, Vol. 1, of the History of Huron County, Ohio by A. J. Baughman, 1909, there is a biographical sketch of Joseph D. FREY. Highlights- 1. He was a successful business man of Norwalk, OH. He came to Norwalk in 1892, working in the ice business for two years, then extending his commercial interests to include coal, concrete blocks, and building materials. 2. Joseph D. was born Dec. 23, 1866 in Ridgefield Township, Huron County, OH. His parents were Benedict and Philomena (KRABACH) FREY. 3. Ken Shute Lookup Results-- I couldn't find David LYON(S) in either our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Index, or in our Death Index, Huron County, Ohio, 1867-1908, or in the RB Hayes Obituary Index. I also checked the obituary and death links on the Richland County, Ohio web site without success. Yet David appears to have firm roots in New Haven Township, Huron County, Ohio, in the 1890's, and even in 1900, just two months before his death on 13 Aug 1900. Details- 1. Huron County Atlas of 1891. David LYON, New Haven Township, Section 1, Lots 130 (40 acres), 131 (28.5 acres) and 134 (55 acres). 2. Picturesque Huron County, Ohio, 1896. Page 151 shows a picture of the " Residence of David LYON, near Plymouth, New Haven Township." 3. Ancestry.Com's 1900 Census for New Haven Township, Huron County, Ohio, taken 9 June, 1900. Read name, relation, birthdate, age, place of birth, place of birth of father, place of birth of mother, occupation (where applicable). David LYONS, head, Sep. 1822, 77, NY, VT, NY, farmer. Eunice, wife, Feb. 1832, 68, OH, NY, NY. Harry, son, Oct. 1870, 29, OH, NY, OH, farmer. So the mystery of David's final resting place continues. However, the Ohio Death Certificate Index for a Eunice M. LYONS, presumably David's wife, might give a clue. Details- Name- Eunice M. LYONS. County- Huron. Date- 7/30/1917. Volume No.- 2322. Certificate No.- 46455. Our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publications shows- David LYON m. Eunice CARPENTER 18 Nov 1852, old book 3, page 307. Also, John LYONS m. Melissa CARPENTER 13 Jan 1852, old book 3, page 259. Could David and John be related, as well as Eunice and Melissa?

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- There's only one other mention of the name FREY in the Baughman book. This is on page 195 of Volume 2 where the names Rosella FREY and Emma FREY appear. They appear in a biographical sketch on a Blasius Simon. It mentions, in part, that Blasius married Kathryn Hills on 4 Jun 1861. Kathryn was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann (Biddle) Hills. They had six children- Amelia, Albert, Rose, George, Edward, and Andrew. George, living in Monroeville, married Rosella FREY. They had five children. Edward married Emma FREY, lived at home, and managed his father's farm.
