Ken Shute Lookup Results-- You note that Randolph J. SMITH, who married Lovina HILLS 9 Aug 1852 in Huron County, OH, was your gggrandfather. I didn't have any luck in finding him in any of our Huron County publications, but I did find references to a Randolph (or R.J.) SMITH in several U.S. census records on the internet. If you cobble together these snapshots in time of this Randolph SMITH and his family, you get a picture of his family from 1850 to 1930. Admittedly a bit tenuous, the references look plausible as relating to your Randolph J. SMITH on the basis of birth year, first name of spouse, etc. Randolph is seen first in the 1850 Census as a single person living with a Mills family in Middleburg Twp, Cuyahoga County, OH. He was then 24 years old. He is next seen in the 1880 Census as living with his wife Lavina, two sons (Nuton C. and Irwin) and a daughter (Cora) in Perrysburg Twp, Miami County, IN. At the time he was listed as being 53 years old. "Nuton" is considered a misspelling of "Newton." Following Newton C. SMITH- He is found in the 1920 Census as a widower, age 47, living in Richland Twp, Miami County, IN. In the 1930 Census he appears again as a widower, age 57, living in the same Twp and County. Following Irwin SMITH- He is found in the 1920 Census living with a wife and (three?) children in Wayne Twp, Koscusko County, IN, but does not appear in the 1930 Census. The quality of the 1920 image of the census page on which he appears is very poor, making it difficult to read the names of the members of his family. From Ancestry.com. Details of the 1850 Census, Middleburg Twp, Cuyahoga County, OH, for Randolph SMITH. Read name, age, occupation, and place born- Jepse (Jesse?) MILLS, 29, Potash Maker, OH. Jane MILLS, 27, _, England. Nelson MILLS, 22, Wheelwright, OH. Randolph SMITH, 24, Wheelwright, NY. (Note- Wheelwright is defined as a person who makes and repairs wheels and wheeled vehicles). From online IGI data base (www.familysearch.org). Details of the 1880 Census, Perrysburg Twp, Miami County, OH for R.J. SMITH. Read name, relation, marital status, age, birthplace, occupation, father's birthplace and mother's birthplace- R.J. SMITH, self, M, 53, NY, carriage maker, CT, CT. Lavina SMITH, wife, F, 49, NY, housekeeper, NJ, NY. Irwin SMITH, son, M, 19, IN, carriage maker, NY, NY. Cora SMITH, daughter, F, 16, IN, keeping house, NY, NY. Nuton C. SMITH, son, M, 7, IN, at home, NY, NY. From Ancestry.com. Details of the 1920 Census, Richland Twp, Miami County, IN, for Newton SMITH. Read name, relation, age, marital status, birthplace, father's place of birth, and mother's place of birth- Newton SMITH, head, 47, WD, IN, Richland Twp Miami County, IN, OH, OH. (WD= widower). From Ancestry.com. Details of the 1930 Census, Richland Twp, Miami County, IN, for Newton C. SMITH. Read name, relation, age, marital status, birthplace, father's birthplace, mother's birthplace, and occupation. Newton C. SMITH. head, 57, WD, IN, NY, NY, laborer. From Ancestry.com. Details of the 1920 Census, Wayne Twp, Koscusco County, IN for Irwin E. SMITH. Read name, age, and birthplace. Irwin E. SMITH, 57, IN. (Note- Irwin is listed with a wife and three(?) children, but the image quality is too poor to make out the names and other details for this family. Irwin E. SMITH is not found in the 1930 Census.). Regarding the marriage of Edward HAYES to Sarah A. HILES in Huron County, OH, 2 Nov 1853. I found the following references in our Huron County, OH publicatons- From the 1870 Census Index, Huron County, OH publication. The following HAYES are found on census page 257 for Clarksfield Township. Read first name, age, and place of birth. Sarah A., 37, NY. Edward, 39, CT. Ettie Belle, 5, OH. Frank W., 7, OH. Hattie E., 2, OH. William, 13, OH. From the Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions Book. Clarksfield Methodist Cemetery, Clarksfield Township. Page 41. Ettie Belle HAYES, d/o E. & S. A. HAYES d. 5 Aug 1876 age 11y 7m 27d (L53, B4). (Note- there is also a Sarah HAYES listed on page 43, but she is the w/o Lewis HAYES and age 37y 8m 27d which would make her about seven years older than your Sarah HAYES.) You might try to obtain copies of the marriage records mentioned above from the Probate Court, Huron County Courthouse, 2 E. Main Street, Norwalk, OH 44857. Some may contain names of witnesses, but I'm not sure if they ever give names of parents.

I'm looking for info on Lloyd & Elizabeth LAWRENCE. Lloyd was born in Wakeman, Erie Co, OH sometime in the 1890's, he married Elizabeth PORTER of Lorain and for a time lived in Birmingham and later in New London, Huron Co., OH. I found an Elizabeth LAWRENCE buried in the Grove Street Cemetery, New London (1898-1965) Mother (Sec 6 Row 23). I did not see her husband buried with her, don't know if they had any children. Anyone know of these folks? Does Huron Co have an obituary index or a death index for the year 1965?

Ken Shute Look Up Results - Here are two references I found on the internet that might apply to your Lloyd LAWRENCE family- 1. Ancestry.com's U.S.1930 Census For Brighton Twp, Lorain Co., OH. Census taken April 25, 1930. At Address 46 Medino Rd. (Read name, relation, age at last birthday, age at marriage, birthplace, father's birthplace, mother's birthplace.) Lloyd E. LAWRENCE, head, 33, 23, OH, OH, OH. Elizabeth LAWRENCE, wife, 30, 20, OH, OH, OH. Wesley LAWRENCE, son, 9, N/A, OH, OH, OH. Evelyn LAWRENCE, daughter, 5, N/A, OH, OH, OH. Merrill, LAWRENCE, son, 3 4/12, N/A, OH, OH, OH. Lloyd E. LAWRENCE's occupation is given as "laborer." 2. Ancestry. Com's Ohio Deaths, 1970-1988. Name- Lloyd G. LAWRENCE Death Date- 15 August 1972 Residence- Medina County Marital Status- Married Place of Death- Barberton, Summit County Age- 75 years. Death Certified by- Physician Autopsy- Unknown Certificate- 066048 Volume- 21001. I note the middle initial for Lloyd is given as "E" in the first item, and as "G" in the second. The "E" seems pretty firm as viewed on the image of the census page. The death information in item 2 seems to track with the SSDI information on Lloyd LAWRENCE, born 19 Jul 1897, died, Aug 1972, sent you by Cheryl Myers. I note Lloyd LAWRENCE above was listed as married at the time of his death in 1972. Unless Lloyd married for a second time, it might bring into question the relationship of the Elizabeth LAWRENCE who is listed in the Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions book as having died 1865. I could find no Elizabeth LAWRENCE listed in Ancestry.com's Ohio Deaths, 1958-1969.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - I recently re-visited the internet to see if I could locate any more information on the parents and forebears of Byron P. SHERWOOD and came up with the following possibilities- 1. From the Family Search Pedigree Resource File (www.familysearch.org), submitted by Lori A. Beaty, 5077 N. August St., Erda Utah, 84074- Individual Record. Byron Preston SHERWOOD. b. 19 Mar 1858, Norwalk, Huron, OH. d. 21 Sep 1930, Detroit, Wayne, MI. Father- Issac SHERWOOD. Mother- Lauretta. Spouse- Minnie Belle FARR. Married- 27 Apr 1886, Montrose, Genessse, MI. Issac SHERWOOD. b. 23 Jun 1809, Sherman, Fairfield, CT. Father- Seymour SHERWOOD Mother- Ruth OLIVET Marriages- (1) Lauretta. (2) Elizabeth HOPKINS. Ruth OLIVET. b. 22 Aug 1775, Stamford, Fairfield, CT. d. 16 Jan 1836, Stamford, Fairfield, CT. Marriages- Seymour SHERWOOD. Lauretta. b. abt 1820, Sherman, Fairfield, CT. Marriages- Isaac SHERWOOD. 2. From the Family Search Ancestral File (www.familysearch.org), submitted by- (1) William H. Sherwood, Victor Egypt Rd., Victor, NY 14564, and (2) Marjorie Ward Rohrsen, 6905 E. Hubbell, Scottsdale, AZ, 85257. Family Group Record. Husband's Name- Seymour SHERWOOD. b. 10 May 1776, Stamford, CT. Married- abt. 1801. Father- Seymour SHERWOOD (Sr.). Mother- Ruth LOCKWOOD. Wife's Name- Phoebe BURTON. b. abt 1780 (Stamford, CT). Married- abt 1801. Children- Cyrus, b. abt 1807, CT. Phoebe, b. 1 Jan 1807 (Stamford, CT), d. 13 Nov 1853. Stephen, b. 1805 (CT). Smith, b. b. 1803 (CT). Sarah, b. 15 Mar 1816 (Stamford, CT). Mary, b. 15 Mar, 1818 (CT). Isaac, b. 23 Jun 1809 (Stamford, CT). ( In this record, the pedigree lines for this family actually go back further from Seymour SHERWOOD (Sr.) and Ruth LOCKWOOD.) 3. In Ancestry.com's 1850 census for Townsend Twp, Huron County, Ohio, I found the following Isaac Sherwood family- Read first name, age and birthplace- Isaac, 45, shoemaker, CT. Loretta, 35, NY. John, 14, CT. Francis, 13, CT. Betsy, 11, CT. William, 9, CT. (I could not find this same family in the 1860 census for Townsend Twp, Huron County, OH. Perhaps they had moved to Norwalk Twp where Byron P. SHERWOOD was reported to have been been born about two years earlier. At the moment, Ancestry.com gives no Index for the 1860 Ohio Census. You can check the images for each township one by one, but this can be extremely time consuming for a modem computer. There were 39 images for Townsend Twp, which is not too bad, but Norwalk Twp has 117 images. This 1860 census could be checked again for the Isaac SHERWOOD family, to see if Byron P. SHERWOOD is listed in Norwalk Twp, when Ancestry.com includes an index for Ohio.) (If you haven't already, perhaps you could contact the submitters named for items 1. and 2. above for any additional proof they might hold.) 4. In case you don't have it, here is the 1930 census for Detroit, Wayne Co., MI, which includes the Byron P. SHERWOOD family (given by Ancestry.com)- Residence- 220 Comstock Ave. Byron P. SHERWOOD, head, value of home- $5,000, age- 72, age at marriage- 28, born- OH, father born- OH, mother born- NY, occupation- none. (Father's birthplace here (OH) is different from that given in items 1. And 2. above). Minnie B. SHERWOOD, wife, age 60, age at marriage- 16, born- MI, father born NY, mother born NY, occupation- none. Laura J. HART, daughter, age- 28, age at marriage- 21, born- MI, father born- OH, mother born- MI, occupation- clerk in railroad office. Laura May HART, age 16, born- MI, father born- IL, mother born- MI. Thomas HART, age 12, born- MI, father born- IL, mother born- MI. Stanly HART, age 11, born- MI, father born- IL, mother born- MI. Mary HART, age 9, born- MI, father born- IL, mother born- MI.

Do you have a Bellevue MOSIER line and find yourself flat against a wall? If so check this out. Early in 1850 when my Great Grandfather Niklaus MOSER with his wife Elizabeth, and five children arrived in New York City (from Switzerland) he was given some kind of an official paper on which his name was spelled Nicholas MOSIER. My great grand father accepted this MOSIER spelling as the way the name is spelled in America. All his children accepted this spelling also, accept my grandfather, Nicholas MOSER, Jr. The children of this family were, My Grandfather Nicholas, Jr., born Sept. 1839, John B. born Sept. 1842, Anna Elizabeth born Dec. 1845, Christian born April 1849 and Frederick born Sept. 1850. All born in Switzerland. This family is listed on the 1860 census in Bellevue with the name spelled MOSIER. My grand father, at 21 years old, has left home and is in the US Army. (He was in the army when the Civil War started.) By 1860 his brother, John B. has also left home. This family had four more children all born in Bellevue. Mary 1854, Wm. 1856, James 1857. and Edmund 1859. My grandfather was the only one of the seven boys that kept the MOSER spelling of the name. Because he did so, I have been able to document his MOSER family with Swiss records. Church (catholic) and the city of Zollikofen, to the year 1658. I would be pleased to share my findings with any one that has a MOSIER or MOSER line coming out of Bellevue, or Huron Co. Ohio. (I'm 83 years old. Born in Cleveland, I remember a MOSIER family there that was from the same line. I think they were grand children of John B. (MOSER) MOSIER.

Andrew Waber Look Up Results - As a member of the SEELEY Genealogical Society may I recommend you to this site- http://home.att.net/~seelyegen/ This is an organization with many other people who are researching the same SEELEY family. May I also add that way back there we are cousins because all SEELYS, SEELEYS, SEELYE, CILLY, etc. are descended from a common ancestor who came over to Conn. in the 1600s. May I also recommend that you get hold of Daniel Parsons SEELYE at [email protected] for he used to be the head of the Society but now he's stepped down a little bit. He does, however, maintain active participation with his website. I am almost certain this information will help; it did the same for me!
