I saw the very kind offer of Huron County Cemetery Inscription lookups on the Huron County website. I wish I could do it myself. There's quite a few. It turns out that my family seems to have been some of the pioneers in the Huron County area. My maternal grandfather was William Boise HOLTON (b. 23 Nov 1879 or 1881 Lyme, Huron, OH, d. 29 Jan 1951 Sacramento, CA) and my maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Ann RYAN (b. 1883 or 1888/89 Lyme, Huron, OH, d. Feb 1922 Sacramento, CA). William's family goes back to the early 1800s in the area. I have nothing on Elizabeth Ann RYAN or her family at this point. Family names are: HOLTON, RYAN, BOISE, RUSSELL, STRONG, LAKE, CURTIS, and COGSWELL. I just managed to break through to my grandfather's family a few days ago, using the LDS database. It appears as though my roots run very deep in Lyme Township and in other parts of Huron County as well. I never knew we had such a story. My mom is in Florida, she's 88 and she doesn't yet know anything that I have found. The Huron County data on the internet helped tremendously. Now, I'm stuck on many of the dates for the family and I think I can get restarted with the headstone inscriptions.

Did anyone ever hear of the BURDGE family of Huron County, Ohio? William (b. c. 1787) was apparently the patriarch. I have been searching for this family for years, and new clues have lead me to Huron County. My family was Richard (b. c. 1815) and his wife, Louisa, who were married before 1850. Their son, Ira William, married Eliza WILLIAMS of Sandusky County.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - I found a few references in our Huron County, Ohio publications, and the internet, that appear to relate to your BURDGE family. Here they are- 1. Cemetery Inscriptions, Huron County, Ohio. Brighton Cemetery, Norwich Township. Page 710. Section A-- Row 10. "3. Nancy BURDGE, d/o R. & L. BURDGE, d. 11 Dec 1818. Age 9m 23d. (perhaps 1848 instead??)" (Note- I assume this could refer to Richard & Louisa BURDGE.) 2. 1870 Census Index, Huron County, Ohio. (I'm including this BURDG family since it includes a William BURDG who would have been born ca 1787, the time your William BURDGE was thought to have been born.) Following BURDGEs are listed for Census Page 479, Norwich Township. Read first name, age, and place of birth. Wm., 83, NJ; W.H., 19, OH; Sylvester, 23, OH; Sarah, 62, NJ; Mille, 7, OH; Marie, 4, OH; Leon, 1, OH; Jacob, 61, NJ; Ernest, 9, OH; Delmer, 10, OH; Charles, 33, OH; Annie, 27, OH; Alvina, 16, OH (Census page 480). 3. R. B. Hayes Index of Obituaries (Index.rbhayes.org). This web site gives an index of obituaries for Sandusky/ Seneca/Huron/etc. Counties, Ohio, published by local newspapers. The list of BURDGEs in the Index includes Ira William BURDGE (d. 1903) and his wife, Eliza WILLIAMS (d. 1901). The web site gives details on the date of death, name of newspaper and date of publication, and newspaper page and column of the obit. The site also describes how a copy of the obit can be obtained for a nominal fee. In addition to the above, at no extra cost, I include the following BURDGE marriages in the period 1859-1873, in case some might relate to your BURDGE family. They are taken from our Marriages of Huron County, Ohio, published by Scheuer publications, 1992. Charles L. BURDGE m. Amaranth SHAMP 17 Jul 1870. Book 2, Page 217. Charles T. BURDGE m. Amanda L. You could try to obtain copies of these marriage records by writing to Probate Court, Huron County Courthouse, 2 East Main St., Norwalk, OH 44857. Of the names you cite, I can find only those of A.J. KNAPP and Fannie M. DOLBEE KNAPP in our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions- Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk Township. Page 556. Section 1-- Ave C-- Row 28. 15 Abijah J. KNAPP 1833-1914. Page 556. Section 1-- Ave C-- Row 25. 16 Fannie M. KNAPP; 18 Abijah J. KNAPP (GAR marker). It appears that Andrew and Frank DOLBEE may not have remained for any extended period in Huron County, Ohio after their marriages. I could find nothing specific on either one in our other Huron County, Ohio publications, apart from their marriages. From Ancestry.com I find an Andrew J. DOLBEE in the Toledo, Ohio Directories, 1889-1891- Name- Andrew J. DOLBEE Business Name- L S & MS Ry Occupation- fireman Location 2- 1715 Western Avenue, Toledo, OH Year- 1890,1891. Ohio 1910 Census Miracode Index- Andrew J. DOLBEE; Age 46; Birthplace- Ohio; County- Lucas; Toledo; Relation- head of Household; Other residents- Wife, Caroline, age 48, born NY. If you consider WHYLER as a variant spelling of WHEELER, as the online IGI site www.family search.com did, then there may be possible candidates for the parents of Nellie WHYLER who married Frank DOLBEE 6 Jan 1890- Nellie WHEELER b. 6 Jun 1868, Huron County, Ohio. Parents were Leroy WHEELER and Olive TOOKER. Leroy WHEELER m. Olive TOOKER 11 May 1867, Huron County, Ohio. I would dearly love to connect with anyone who has this Orlean DAGGETT in their database. Mary Ann DAGGETT b. 16 Mar 1819 in Four Corners, Huron Co., OH. She married Ephraim Harrison LOOMIS the 5th of Sept 1836 in Jo Daviess Co., IL and died 9th of Mar 1888 in Coronado Sedgwick Co., KS. Mary Ann was the only daughter of Orlean DAGGETT b. about 1786 possibly in VT. He married Elizabeth RIMA in 1921 in Waynesfield, Woods Co., OH but I am not sure if Elizabeth is the mother of Mary Ann DAGGETT. Orlean's parentage is not proven, but I think he was a child of Asa DAGGETT and Polley, the other children in this family being 1) unknown child, 2) Asel b. 1780, 3) Orlean, 4) Elisha, 5) Unknown child, 5) Fortunate b. 1806 and 6) Loren b. 1809. Please keep in mind that I have not proven the family of Asa DAGGETT or proven that Orlean DAGGETT for sure a child in it.

I am new to this but I am learning fast. My roots are out of Huron, Lorain, and Erie counties. My surnames are BLANDEN, BRISTOL, CURTISS, DENNISON, DENSLOW, FURLONG, GALUSHA, LEWIS, and WATKINS. The BLANDEN, CURTISS, DENSLOW, and LEWIS lines are giving me the most trouble. They are all Huron and Erie county surnames. I have several names I would like to have looked up from the Huron County Cemetery Inscriptions book if anyone could help me out there.
