I am looking for Lavina PRICE PATTERSON possibly died in Huron Co. where she and her husband Lyman C. PATTERSON lived from before Jan. 1835 to abt. 1858. In "The Huron County, Ohio Index of Cemetery Inscriptions", I found no Lavina PATTERSON; however under PRICE I found a L..J.P., 7 listed. Could possibly be Lavina buried with her PRICE family. Is there any way to check? I understand the "7" is the page number, is there anything about that person in the book? Dates or anything? Lavina PRICE was born abt 1818 NY according to the 1850 Huron Co. census.

My 4th GG Parents were Elias HUTCHINGS and Sally/Sarah WELBY COX SMITH. There is a lot of mystery surrounding her surname. All three have been seen at one point or another. We are fairly certain that there is a father and a step-father involved. SMITH is the most likely step-father, as her mother remarried a SMITH and they moved to Huron County, Ohio. It was there Sally married Elias HUTCHINGS in 1816. Sally/Sarah gave the following birth information about herself: birthplace Bernard, Somerset, New Jersey, birthdate 26 Feb 1796 (also seen as 1794), parents John COX and Amy SMITH. It appears that the SMITH name actually came from Sally's step-father and that her mother, Amy's maiden name may actually have been WELBY. Her remarriage to SMITH would have been in the late 1790's or early 1800's. We are interested in any marriage and death records that may confirm or correct any of this data. Is it possible to look up a name as common as Amy Smith? I am not positive of her husband's first name.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - Don't know if this one is yours or not, but I found an Alice PECK as a daughter of Henry T., Sr. and Abigail (HASTINGS) PECK of Wakeman Township, in our History of Huron County, Ohio, by A.J. Bauhgman, 1909. It occurs in Vol. 1, Page 378 in a biographical sketch on Henry T. PECK, Jr. who was born 22 Feb 1858 in Wakeman Township. His parents were Henry T., Sr. of Connecticut, and Abigail (Hastings) PECK of Massachussetts. They had 13 children who grew to maturity. They were: Warren, Atlanta, Byron, Julia, Adelbert, Royal, Lavinia, Edward, Wilmer, Virgil, Everett, Henry T., Jr., and Alice. Of this number, four are deceased (as of 1909): Adelbert, Edward, Lavinia, and William (sic). This same PECK family also appears in our 1870 Census Index of Huron County, Ohio. The following PECKs are listed for census page 596A, Wakeman Township. Read first name, age, and place of birth- Abaretta, 3, OH; Abigail, 56, MA; Adelbert, 27, OH; Allie (possibly Alice?), 10, OH; Charles, 19, OH; Clara, 2, OH; Cynthia, 9, OH; Everett, 15, OH; Henry T., 61, VT; Henry, 13, OH; Lanna, 22, OH; Marilla, 50, NY; Riley R., 56, VT; Royal, 25, OH; Virgil, 17, OH; William, 20, OH. In our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, by Scheuer Publications, I find- Byron L. MEAD m. Alice M. PECK 22 Jul 1885. Calvert A. MEAD m. Ellen M. MESNARD 24 Mar 1857. The 1870 Census Index for Huron County, Ohio shows the MEAD family (including father Calvert and son Byron). All MEADs are listed on Census page 252 for Bronson Township. Read first name and place of birth- Albert, OH; Byron, OH; Calvert, OH; Charles, OH; Clayton, OH; Ellen M., NY; Henry, OH. Baughman's History of Huron County, Vol. 2, Page 75, in a biographical sketch on Calvert A. MEAD, notes that Calvert A. and Ellen (MESNARD) MEAD had seven children- Charles W., Byron L., Albert S., Gertrude, Louella, Clayton B., Henry B., and Frank L. In other references, Calvert A. MEAD appears in our Atlases of 1873 and 1891 owning over 90 acres of land in Section 3, lot 11, Bronson Township. He is seen in our 1880 Census Index for Huron County in Bronson Twp, page 004. Our Death Index for Huron County, Ohio, 1908-1919, gives the dates of death for Calvert A. and Ellen M. MEAD as 10/27/1912, and 12/14/1911, respectively. Finally, Calvert A. MEAD is listed on page 433 of our Index to the Commemorative Biographical Record of Huron and Lorain Counties, Ohio, by J.H. Beers & Co., 1894. We don't own the book itself so I can't help you further on this one.

I found 2 marriages for Eayre O. STILES in LDS records. Could you verify them for me in your book and if there is any additional information i.e. parents of the wives etc. pass that along also. Eayre O. STILES married "John ST. JOHN" (I'm not sure I understand the name) on 12 May 1844, Huron Ohio. Eayre O. STILES married Mary E. SKINNER on 22 August 1848, Huron, Ohio. I was researching my husband's Eastern Shore Virginia family and it turns out his great-grandfather, John W. STILES (Eayre's son) was born in Indiana. The STILES were a New Jersey family who went out west and appear in the 1850 Indiana census and are back in New Jersey in 1860. They appear to have stopped in Ohio for awhile and at least two of them found wives there. Eayre's brother, Jacob, also married in Ohio and ended up on the Eastern Shore in the 1870's. And then a couple of his nephews also moved to Accomack County. They were farmers in the Midwest but sailors and oystermen in NJ and VA.

(CURTISS) SMITH and Robert SMITH d. 1872 and 1871 respectively, before the birth of your Eugene Lester SMITH who was b. 1 Sep 1873. The only information I could find on your family was in our 1870 Census Index of Huron County, Ohio. Following are SMITHs found on census page 292 for Fitchville Township. Read first name, age, and place of birth. Charley, 14, MI; Francis, 32, OH; Luella, 3, OH; Merrit, 40, VT; Merrit, 9, IA. From the ages and places of birth of the children, it would appear that this family was in Michigan ca 1856, where Francis and Merrit might have been married ca 1854-1856. By ca 1861 the family was in Iowa, and by ca 1867 the family was in Ohio. Merrit SMITH is not listed in the 1880 Census Index for Huron County, Ohio.

I've spent years searching for the parents of my Merritt J. SMITH, b. 1861 and d. 1915 in Akron, OH. His death cert. indicates that his parents are Merritt SMITH and Frances CURTIS. I've been researching Merritt SMITHs all over the country trying to find one with a wife named Frances. The 1860 Fayette Co. IA and 1870 Huron Co. OH census suggest that I may have finally found them but that her name may be Francis CURTIS with an "i" (b. in OH). Their oldest child was b. ca. 1855 in MI so perhaps they were married in MI. I found a record for a Eugene Lester SMITH, b. 1 Sept. 1873 in Huron Co., OH with parents listed as Merritt SMITH and Francis CURTISS. Does anyone have a copy of the Huron Co. cemetery inscription book that could please check to see if there is a Merritt and Francis/Frances/Fannie SMITH listed. They would have died after the birth of Eugene in 1873. Perhaps Francis is related to the other Curtis in Fitchville Twp?

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- There is quite a bit of information on the CLAUS and SCHANK families in our History of Huron County, Ohio, by A.J. Baughman, 1909. A biographical sketch on Mathias CLAUS, husband of Josephine SCHANK, appears in Volume 2, Pages 347-348. Also, a sketch on William B. CLAUS, son of Mathias and Josephine (SCHANK) CLAUS, appears in Volume 2, Pages 290-292. Both of these sketches contain considerable detail on Mathias and Josephine CLAUS and their parents. There is another detailed biographical sketch on Mathias CLAUS, his service during the Civil War, and his family, in our Military History of Huron County, Ohio, (Civil War) by HCC/OGS, 1989. This appears on page 17. The information from the above sources is too lengthy and detailed to try to gist here. Consequently, I suggest you try to get copies of the relevant pages. Eayre O. STILES was born on April 29, 1821 in Little Egg Harbor, Burlington Co., NJ, the son of Jesse STILES and Sarah WILLETS. Eayre and his first wife, Jane St. John had a son William, born abt. 1845 in Ohio (based on census years 1850, 1860, 1870). It seems that Jane died because Eayre married again on August 22,1848 to Mary E. SKINNER, daughter of John SKINNER and Emeline FRISBIE (FRISBEE). Mary was born abt. 1831 in Ohio. Sometime shortly after their marriage, Eayre and Mary moved to Washington Twp. Elkhart Co., Indiana because they appear there in the 1850 census as Eyre O. STILES, 30 year old laborer, born NJ and "Emely", 20 years old, born Ohio. William age 5 born in Ohio was also living with them. According to later census records and his marriage record, John W. STILES was born abt. 1851 in Indiana (probably Washington Twp. Elkhart Co.) to Eayre and Mary Emely STILES. Before 1855, the family moved back to New Jersey because their next child, Eloise E. STILES was born there abt. 1854-1855 as were the rest of their children. George W. STILES, b. abt 1858; Harriet A. STILES, b. 1860; Eayre O. STILES Jr. b. abt. 1863; Sallie K. STILES, b. abt. 1865; Eva D. STILES, b. abt. 1868. This family including William, b. abt. 1845 in Ohio appears in the 1860 and 1870 Egg Harbor Twp. Burlington Co., NJ census. In 1860, Eayre STILES is listed as a 39 year old Waterman and in 1870 as "Air O.", a 49 year old Sailor. Mary E. STILES is 28 born in Ohio in the 1860 census and 39 in the 1870, keeping house. In 1860, John W. STILES is 9 years old and in 1870 he is a 19 year old Sailor living with his parents. Eayre O. STILES Sr. did not move to Ohio and Indiana by himself. His father, Jesse STILES (born May 23, 1794 in NJ) and some of Eayre's 13 siblings appear in the 1850 Washington Twp. Elkhart Co. Indiana census also. (as Jesse STYLES) Jesse, age 56, born NJ, Farmer; Andrew, age 15, born NJ; Sarah, age 13, born NJ; Hannah, age 11, born Ohio; Jane, age 8, born Ohio; Frank J., age 6, born Ohio. Between 1837 and 1840 Jesse and his family moved from NJ to Ohio and then after 1844 moved from Ohio to Indiana. His wife Sarah was still alive because she appears again in New Jersey. For some reason she was not at home for the 1850 census. Jesse and his family are also back in Egg Harbor Twp., Burlington Co. New Jersey by the time of the 1860 census. Eayre's brother and Jesse's son, Jacob W. STILES (b. April 19, 1824 in Little Egg Harbor, Burlington, NJ) also moved to Ohio and appears to have stayed put for awhile instead of moving on to Indiana. He married Marsha ELLIS (born February 25, 1824 in New York) on December 25 (or 28), 1845 in Norwalk, Huron Co. The sources conflict on their marriage date, IGI and the Jacob Stiles Bible record have the 25th and Huron Co. Marriages lists the 28th. In the 1850 census, he is a 24 year old farmer, born in NJ, living in Ripley Twp. Huron, Ohio with his wife, Marsha, and 2 Ohio born children. However, Jacob and his family also relocated to New Jersey because he appears as a 34 year old Oysterman in Egg Harbor Twp., Burlington, NJ in 1860. Sometime after 1865 the Jacob W. STILES family moved to Accomack Co. VA based on the birthplaces of their children. His 2 nephews, John W. STILES and Eayre O. STILES moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia after 1870 (haven't had a chance to check 1880 census yet). My husband's great-grandfather, John W. STILES, married Triphenia "Triffie" E. SPENCE on October 4, 1885 in Point Farris, Accomack Co., VA. John listed his occupation as Oysterman. Triffie was the daughter of Joshua Thomas SPENCE and Rachel EVANS and was born on February 16, 1867. She was baptized on August 18, 1868 on Tangier Island, Acc., VA and Tangier Island was listed as her residence at that time. They had at least 4 children including my husband's grandmother, Eva Gertrude STILES (1897-1975). Eva was deaf due to childhood illness, probably measles. Eayre O. STILES Jr. married Elexxine (or Elic. F.-sources differ) BELL at the home of her parents Walter and Maggie BELL on March 9, 1887 in Accomack Co., VA. Eayre Jr. listed his occupation as Waterman. Right now I am wondering what brought Jesse Stiles and his sons to Ohio. Did they have relatives already there? I found several other Stiles and Skinners that were born in NJ but have not made all the connections yet. Would love to hear from any distant cousins out there about any history relating to Skinners, Stiles or Frisbies in Huron County or elsewhere. For instance, does the old Skinner homestead still exist? Where exactly is it located?

Ken Shute Lookup Results--The good news- that brick wall of yours may be crumbling. The bad news- there's probably another brick wall right behind it. Until you get copies from Baughman's History of Huron County, Ohio, here's an excerpt from Vol. 2, Pages 347-348 (bio sketch on Mathias CLAUS), which touches on Josephine SHANK's parents- Josephine SHANK, daughter of Frank and Helen SHANK of Sherman Township, was born in Germany Feb. 14, 1846. She came to this country with her father at age 18. They settled in Norwich Township where the father died at age 75. The mother had passed away many years before in Germany at age 42. Frank and Helen SHANK had six children, four of whom are still living (as of 1909). The two oldest sons, Frank and Benjamin, had previously passed away. Of the others, Elias lives in Norwich Township; Josephine is the wife of Mathias CLAUS; Carrie is living in Fremont, and Agnes is in Tiffin, Ohio.

I have a stray Jared or Jerod SMITH, whose only connection with Huron Co is that his wife, Elmira LOVE, was born there 11Nov1832, probably in New Haven Twp. Jared was born in Morris Co NJ abt 1812-1814. The first documented item I have found on him is that he and Elmira were living in Piqua, Miami Co OH, on the 1870 census. I have no idea where he was from birth to 10Apr1848, when Elmira claims that she married Jared in Monroe Co MI. There is no record of the marriage in the Monroe Co records. Everything comes from a Civil War Widow's pension that Elmira submitted in 1881. Jared had died in Jan1881 at the Soldiers' Home in Dayton OH. Affidavits submitted with the pension application indicate that Jared and Elmira were living in Piqua by 1853, but have not located them on the 1860 census. In addition, their youngest child, my Grandmother, Jennie SMITH was born in Columbus Grove, Putnam Co OH in 1875, so they apparently were in and out of Piqua over the years. Elmira was the daughter of Rufus LOVE, born 11Mar1800 in Green Co NY and Clarissa A. BOWERS, born abt 1805 in Long Island NY, who were married in Huron Co in 1821. On the 1830 census they were in New Haven and in 1840 in Norwalk. I have not located them after that. I have identified one sister of Elmira, who was Mary Elizabeth LOVE, born in Huron Co in 1829. Rufus was the son of John LOVE and Sarah HULL. Perhaps Jared lived in Huron Co where he and Elmira met. Note that he was 34-36, and she 15 when they married. There is a Jarrod S. Smith, age 60, born Conn; along with presumed wife, Hannah(?) D. Smith, age 62, also born Conn, on the 1850 Huron Co OH, Lyme Twp, census, dwelling # 1147 (I neglected to record the page #!). Age is right to be Jared's parents. Anyone recognize any of these folks?

The names listed below were the only ones I found on the web page, so I am not sure if there are others. Frank BLECLIC "brother to my grandmother"; Frank BLECLIC "baby" ?; Joseph BLECLIC "great grandfather"; Mildred K. BLECLIC >page 744> "wife of my grandmother's brother"; Yelka BLECLIC "great grandmother"; Mary E. MCENDREE "grandfather's brother"; Otis L. MORGAN "husband to grandfather's sister; Wilma O. MORGAN "sister to grandfather". Most of my grandparents family lived in and around Willard, Ohio. My Grandparents were Willard Edward MCENDREE and Georgia Theresa BLECLIC. Georgia is still living, but Willard died in Sept. 1984 and is buried in Ebinezer Cemetery, Bethesdia, Ohio. My Great Grandparents names were Joseph BLECLIC and Yelka "Zela" BLECLIC; both buried in Ohio Catholic Cemetery, Willard, Ohio, Grange Road; and Clarkson Edward MCENDREE and Clara Amanda PALMER; both buried in Ebinezer Cemetery, Bethesdia, Ohio.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - This is a puzzle, since Hannah was a PRINDLE and not a HOWE when the amount of the loss was determined in 1792, and when the land was actually divvied up in 1808. I couldn't find anything which would indicate if the "rights" of a sufferer could be grandfathered later into a marriage. This would also presuppose that the Classification Record appearing in the Fire Lands book was printed after ca 1817, the year of Hannah PRINDLE's marriage to Jacob HOWE.. Which might be doubtful. The only reference to the age of the original Classification Record, which gives the names of the Sufferers and the amount of each individual's loss, appears on page 15 of the Fire Lands book. It states: " The following list is taken from the 'Classification Record,' an old book in the office of the recorder of Huron County, and though far from well arranged, the names have been copied in the order there given." Casting further question on whether the Sufferer Hannah HOWE could be your Hannah (PRINDLE) HOWE is a table in the Fire Lands book on page 242 which shows that Hannah HOWE sold her land allotment of 13 pounds, 3 shillings and 6 pence to one Kneeland Townsend, who apparently used it, along with the purchases of other Sufferers allotments, for land speculation in Townsend Township, Huron County, Ohio. (Similarly, Sarah HOWE sold her land allotment of 14/7/1 to Kneeland Townsend.) In spite of the above, I did find a few references to a Jacob and a Hannah HOWE in our Huron County, Ohio publications which might relate to your forebears. Details- 1. Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Norwalk Township. Page 546. 332. Jacob HOWE, d. 19 Feb 1852, ae 55y 1m 21d. (This would put his birth year ca 1797, close to the birth year of 1796 you give for Hannah PRINDLE.) 2. 1845 Plat Book of Huron County, Ohio. Jacob HOWE, Ridgefield Twp, page 6, section 2, lot 7, 50 acres. 3. 1870 Census Index, Huron County, Ohio. The following HOWEs are listed for census page 449, Norwalk Village. Grandfather, William Eugene CARRICK, b 9-28-1853 Lyme Tnsp. Parents, Samuel CARRICK & Mary Ellamina (or Elenore) WOODWARD. Bro., Thomas & sis., Alpharetta or Etta. I did find an Adam& Sarah CARRICK in the 1860 census with a son Wm. age 7, which would apply, and a Samuel & Mary CARRACK who had children- Florence, Thomas, Ellezia, & Esther. This info was from a cousin of my father's who said her mother was this "Etta" mentioned above.

I am seeking information on the mother of Olive Jane REA/TIMBS. Mary EMMONDS is listed as being the mother of Olive Jane on the death certificate which was signed by her husband William TIMBS. I do not have much to go on other than a death certificate that lists Mary EMMONDS as being from Scotland. Also, I found EMMONS deaths at: http://www.rbhayes.org/obits/search3.asp This has two EMMONS dying, one in Milan and the other in Florence. Do not know if this would be a connection to 'my' Mary EMMONS. Here is what I know: Olive Jane REA b. January 9, 1843 d. December 20, 1915. Parents: Johnston REA b. December 24, 1790 d. January 3, 1881 and Mary EMMONDS. First I have Johnston REA marrying an Elizabeth JOHNSTON April 25, 1833 in Elyria (Lorain County). No other information. I have a Lovina on a deed made in 1838, Lorain County, with Johnston REA as husband. I have a Malissa listed with Johnston REA in the 1850 census of Black River (Lorain County). I also have a will of Malissa RAY, Elyria, Ohio, made March 23, 1857; probated June 19, 1857; mentions son Hiram F. RAY. This was presented to the court by Charles H. DOOLITTLE, and M. RAY, cousins. This gives her house and lot situated in Amherst Twp., County of Lorain and State of Ohio, and being the whole of lot number 23 in the town plat of Amherstville. Would this be one in the same as to a Mary EMMONDS? Or could this be Johnston REA's elusive sister? I have Johnston REA on an 1852 deed where he says he is of Florence, Erie County with Lovina. I have a Lovina listed with Johnston REA in the 1860 and 1870 census of Florence Twp. (Erie County). I have the death certificate of Lovina that lists her as being from Rochester, PA. I have Johnston REA on two early plat maps - the latest being 1873 in Wakeman, Huron County. Lovina and Johnston are living with their son, Theodore, on the 1880 census in Wakeman, Huron County. I have Lovina buried in Wakeman Cemetery, Huron County. Where is Johnston buried? Thank you for any insight that you might give.

If Frederick ONSTINE acquired the 900 acres of land in an area of the Fire Lands other than that part made up of Huron County, you might want to check for this possibility in Erie County, Ashland County (Ruggles Township), and Ottawa County (Danbury), Ohio. There are links to Erie and Ashland Counties from the HCC/OGS home page (sites.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron). It is taken from the biographical sketch on Charles SUHR, found in Vol. 2, page 455 of the History of Huron County, Ohio, by A.J. Baughman, 1909. The father of Charles SUHR was William SUHR who was born in Saxony, Germany 7 Mar 1829. William came to the U.S. with his parents at age 15. Charles, born 16 Oct 1860 in Norwalk, was the fifth of six children of William and Mary (CASHBAUGH) SUHR. The children were- Amelia, born in Cleveland but acidentally killed at age 12; George W., born in Norwalk in 1855; Mary and William A., also natives of Norwalk; Charles; and Laura E. who died in July, 1908. Charles SUHR was educated in the Norwalk schools, and undertook a three year college course at Kenyon, Ohio. He later studied law, pursuing his reading under the direction of Stephen M. Young. In 1885, Charles was admitted to the bar and opened an office in Norwalk. In 1902 he was elected probate judge, which office he held until 1909 when he retired from the bench and resumed private practice. In 1891, Charles SUHR married Millie A. Her father's name was John HEETER and his first wife was Mary WARREN. They had three children: Jacob, Mary (my grandmother) and John. After Mary WARREN died, sometime in the early 1870s, John married Catherine GOURLANG at the St. Joseph's Church in Monroeville on Oct 13.1874. I am trying to find more information on Mary WARREN and Catherine GOURLANG and trying to determine when the HEETERs came to Ohio.

Philip SEEL. page 239. (Unfortunately, I don't hold a copy of the book itself). 2. Huron County, Ohio Marriages, by Scheuer Publications, 1992. Philipp SEEL m. Elizabeth BENDER 20 Sep 1868. (But this would be after the birth of the son in 1862 that you cited). 3. Death Index, 1867-1908, Huron County, Ohio. Philipp SEEL d. 11/24/1892. 4. 1870 Census Index, Huron County, Ohio. Philip SEEL, age 58, born Nassau, census page 355A, Lyme Township. (This would give his birth year as ca 1812 instead of 1823). 5. 1880 Census Index, Huron County, Ohio. My Phillip (Philip) was born about 1823 and moved on to Michigan sometime. He was born in Dietz Nassau, Germany, which I believe the other Phillip was born, he was married to an Elizabeth, there is a marriage record out there for an Elizabeth and Phillip, but there is also cemetery inscriptions online for a Phillip and Elizabeth in Huron, which wouldn't be mine because they died in Michigan. Anyway, thought maybe one of your ancestors has him as a sibling, or maybe yours moved to Michigan also.

I'd appreciate it if you'd look up my relatives in your Huron County Cemetery book and let me know what you find. According to my 2nd cousin, our great-great-great grandparents died in Huron County and are buried there. In the index on your website there are some possibilities. The dates may be different (I don't have a lot of faith in my cousin's accuracy). Here they are- John BLAKE died around 1858 (page 135?). Elizabeth BLAKE, his wife, died around 1872 (page 135?). James BLAKE, his son, died around 1882 (pages 135, 133, 149, or 302). Frances BLAKE, his wife, died around 1884 (page 135). Page 135 seems to be the most likely. The census records said they lived in Greenfield Twp, which I gather is currently the town of Steuben.

I am looking for information on my gr. gr. grandfather and gr. gr.grandmother Patrick Timmins and Agnes Keeley/KeallyTimmins. They appear in the 1860 census in Norwalk and family lore says Patrick Timmins died in 1867 and was buried in St. Marys Cemetery. In the census he is listed as a grocer. He had three children Amelia born 1860, Elizabeth born 1863 and Bernard John born 1864-65. His wife also died around this time.

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- I'm afraid I couldn't find much on your TIMMINS family. I did find a reference to the marriage of a Patrick TIMMINS, but in this case the bride was a Bridget SMITH, not Agnes KEELEY, and the year was 1869. I found no reference to a Patrick TIMMINS in our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions book. Nor could I find a reference to this person in our cemetery inscription books for Seneca County, and Erie County (St. Mary's Cemetery). Details- 1. Huron County, Ohio Marriages, by Scheuer Publications, 1992. Patrick TIMMINS m. Bridget SMITH 17 May 1869. Bernard J. TIMMINS m. Annie MCMANUS 8 Jan 1890. 2. 1880 Census Index, huron County, Ohio. Patrick TIMMINS, Townsend Twp, 262A. I note that Kathleen J. SMITH posted three queries on her TIMMINS family on the Queries link of the Huron County, Ohio home page (sites.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron). These postings were made on June 19, 1998, August 3, 1998, and November 15, 1999. In these postings she mentions a Patrick TIMMINS. Maybe it would be worth your while to contact her, if you haven't already.

I am new to the list, and am hoping that someone can help me resolve a puzzle that I have in regard to the maiden name of a woman buried in the Steuben Cemetery in Greenfield Township. From the Cemetery Inscriptions she is listed on p. 137 as "MATHERS, Margaret TRIMMER w/o James MATHERS, b. 1 Mar 1751 d.31 Dec 1826. However, on a picture (through the kindness of Norma Miller) of this gravestone the inscription does not include the name TRIMMER. Of course, this is a "little" disappointing. Is there anyone there in Huron County (or elsewhere!) who might have an idea how that name would appear in the index and not on the stone? Did someone write it into the original transcription of the stones? Was there once a member who was descended from Margaret who assisted in collecting the inscriptions?
