I would like to figure out what happened to my grt uncles. Here are the names that I have: Arthur Ralph (he prefered Ryan) SPENCER b:1888 -my grt grandfather James W. SPENCER b:1889 Earl Sylvester SPENCER b: 1892 son b: @ 1894 son b: @1896 I guess there are only 4 grt uncles who were placed in the home with my grt grandfather. All were the children of Charles CHURCHILL (he supposedly preferred Clarence) SPENCER and Alice (aka Allie) WILLIAMS SPENCER. According to lore, Allie placed all the boys but the youngest (William b:1898) in the home when my grt grandfather was approx. 12 yrs old that would put the time of placement at around the turn of the century. There was also an older half brother, John Edwin WILLIAMS SPENCER, he would have been 18 or 19 yrs old. I don't know if he would have been included or not. Since he would have been considered emancipated, I sincerely doubt he would have been placed, I don't know for sure.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - There were only two SPENCERs in the list of childen at the Norwalk (Huron County) Children's Home. Read date, page, age, name of child, place of birth, and adm(itting?) township: 1893, 180, 6, Arthur SPENCER, not listed, Norwalk. 1894, 182, 8, Willie SPENCER, not listed, Norwalk. This Arthur SPENCER would seem to be a good bet for your Arthur SPENCER. His age and date would indicate his birth year to be 1887, confirmed in the Birth Index for Huron County given below. The Willie SPENCER would have an implied birth year of about 1886, much earlier than that of the youngest son William SPENCER, you cited as born 1898, and supposedly never placed in the home. Could this Willie SPENCER be still another (older ) brother of Arthur SPENCER? The only other information on these SPENCERs I could find was in our Birth Index, 1867-1908, Huron County, Ohio Court Records, by HCC/OGS, 1998. (Read name, date of birth, vol. no., and page no.) Arthur R. SPENCER, 01/20/1887, 2, 74. Earl Sylvester SPENCER, 02/11/1892, 2, 145. James W. SPENCER, 12/30/1889, 2, 113. John Edwin Williams SPENCER, 02/16/1881, 1, 187. I could find no references to any of your SPENCERs in our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions, by HCC/OGS, 1997.

Listers have very kindly sent me info on burial place of David J., Pamelia, and their unmarried daughter, Charitie; info on David J.; and I have tracked some of these through the census till 1920. Family stories indicate there may have been another brother to Charles who moved to Greenwich, but I have found no trace of that David BRADY. Think he may have been confused with David J.

On the Oberlin University Site - (which is wonderful if you have not seen it) - there is an article with a picture about the Wellington Rescuers, who saved some people from jail who had been helping the run away slaves. In the picture is "JM FITCH". In my family I have a Jonathan FITCH - could this be the same person? Does anyone have any clues as to where I can go for additional information on this group, I would like to know if this FITCH is related to my FITCH!

I am really having trouble trying to find out what happened to two children that my Great Great Grandfather had from his first marriage. William NORTHRUP m. Phebe SLAWSON in 1847 in Huron Co. OH. They had two daughters, Julia b. ca 1847 and Mary Ann b. ca 1854. Phebe remarried to William JARVIS. I found one marriage of a Julia NORTHRUP to a PATCH but this was not our Julia. Does anyone know what may have happened to these girls?

Tom Neel Look Up Results - I picked up a book called "OVERMYER History and Genealogy From 1680 to 1905," by Barnhart B. and John C. OVERMYER, Beelman Printing, Fremont OH, 1905, several years ago because some of my FETTERMAN and HETRICK aunts and uncles had married into that group and were listed. I do not descend from OVERMYER. On page 283, is an article on Hugh OVERMYER, born 1 May 1801 Northumberland (now Union) Co PA, died 20 Nov 1851; married 9 Oct 1823 Perry Co OH to Eleanor YOST, born 20 May 1802 Wheeling WV, died 16 Mar 1891. Both are buried in the Smith Cemetery, north of Burgoon OH. This family moved from Perry Co to Jackson Twp., Sandusky Co OH. They were farmers, Baptist, Democrat. They had a bunch of children: 1. Henry G., b. 11 Sep 1824 2. Harrison, b. 17 Sep 1826 3. Thomas A., b. 1828; d. 29 Jul 1830 4. Lucinda, b. 15 Jul 1830, d. 14 Oct 1830 5. Mary Catherine, b. 14 Sep 1831, d. 17 Jul 1876 6. Hugh M., b. 25 Mar 1843; d. 1 Oct 1875 in Arkansas 13. Francis M., b. 16 Feb 1845. Pages 283 through 287 then list some of the descendants of this couple. It does not appear that Hugh and his wife were ever here in Huron County, however, the daughter, Mary C., married second to Reuben WYANT, and their son Ira Wyant is listed in Baughman's History of Huron County, Vol. I, p. 311. Hugh OVERMYER's ancestry is in the book. His father was Jacob OVERMYER by wife Mary GUIN. Jacob's father was the immigrant, John George OVERMYER by second wife Barbara FOUGHT. Someone told me once that the OVERMYER history had some inaccuracies in it, but all books do.

I am looking for info on Jahiel FISK and Susan Ann WOLAVER and their relations. WOLAVER is spelled a variety of ways, including WOOLIVER, WELLIVER, WILLEVER, WOOLEVER, and WOHLEBEN. FISK is sometimes spelled FISKE and could possibly be spelled FISH. Here's what I have in terms of background- Susan Ann WOLAVER, born about 1803, possibly in Huron County, Ohio, or [unknown] County, New York, or [unknown] County, Pennsylvania, thought to have died about 1896 at Denver, Colorado, was married to Jahiel (also spelled Jahiah and Jehial) FISK, born approximately 1793, possibly in Huron County, Ohio, or [unknown] County, New York, died 12/18/1854, Huron County, Ohio. Jahiel and Susan were married 10/18/1826 in Huron County, Ohio. They had three children: John Lafayette FISK, born 11/5/1827, Huron County, Ohio, died 2/2/1895, Howard City, Montcalm County, Michigan; Alonzo W. FISK, born 1/24/1835, Huron County, Ohio, died 12/10/1893, Coopersville, Ottawa County, Michigan; and Philetus LeRoy FISK, born 7/26/1842, Winsor, Richland County, Ohio, died 4/12/1915, Paonia, Delta County, Colorado. Susan's provenance is unknown. She may have had a brother named Jacob WOLAVER. There is also a record of a woman named Avis C. WOLOVER, born ___, died ___, married 3/21/1852 to Stephen KNAPP in Huron County, Ohio. Assuming Avis married in her twenties, her birth date would have been in the late 1820s or early 1830s, which would likely make her one generation younger than Susan, perhaps a great-niece? There is also a record pertaining to a Catharine Ann WOLAVER, born ____, died ____, married 2/24/1856 to Nathan BOHAM in Shelby County, Ohio. If Catharine is related to Susan, she may be a great-niece, and could possibly be Avis'sister. Jahiel's provenance is a mystery.

I am looking for the marriage of Lorenzo CORNISH and Mary ?, circa 1854. Lorenzo is found in the 1850 Huron county census, age 18. He married around 1854 possibly in Huron co. In the 1850 census he is living with Hiram ALLEN, and another Cornish in the household is age 7, born Ohio. A reasonable guess might be that the oldest female in the household is his remarried mother - that marriage should be Hiram ALLEN and Drusilla (CORNISH, if my theory is correct), after 1843. So, a lookup for a CORNISH who died between 1843 and 1850 would also be appreciated

The one reference was in our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer publications. It read- Jehial FISK m. Susan Ann WOLAVER 18 Oct 1826, old book 1, page 81. Somewhat surprisingly, the surname FISK did not appear at all in such of our publications as Williams' History of the Fire Lands, Baughman's History of Huron County, Ohio; Index of Deaths, 1867-1908; 1870 Census; and our Atlases of 1845, 1873, and 1891, among others. Jahiel FISK was not listed in our Cemetery Inscriptions book for Huron County, Ohio. There were a number of FISH surnames in our publications, but none with the same forenames as those you mentioned, ie. Jahiel; wife Susan; sons John Lafayette, Alonzo W. and Philetus LeRoy. I also checked a few of our Seneca County and Sandusky County, Ohio publications for these FISKS, but without success.

If not, her email address is [email protected], or [email protected]. On Feb. 24, 1998, Elaine posted a query on the OHHURON Mail List in which she stated her interest in the Hiram and Polly (RITTER) ALLEN family, with a comment that Polly ALLEN died about 1847, and that Hiram remarried Drucilla CORNISH, "probably the widow of Benjamin CORNISH." She goes on to say that they (Hiram and Drucilla) moved to Elkhart Co., IN about 1852, and that Hiram's younger children married there. In Elaine's posting of Feb. 25, she commented that one of Hiram and Polly ALLEN's daughters was Mary, who married Miner COLE in 1840. I am researching the family of Jerome and Mary O'RILEY TIMMINS who lived in Norwalk from roughly 1850 to 1865. They were both from Co. Cavan, Ireland. It was said that Jerome, while a farmer, also worked for the city of Norwalk for a time. His children were James, Patrick, Thomas, (born in Ireland) and John, Mary Ann, Bridget and Catherine (twins), Francis (born in Norwalk). In 1865 or so, Jerome and Mary moved to Lenawee Co. MI. (I descend from Bridget.) Jerome's brother Luke TIMMINS also came to Norwalk. He and wife, Mary, were the parents of James, Gregory (who was likely killed at 19 in a RR accident), Margaret and John. Another brother, Patrick TIMMINS may also have come to Norwalk. A sister, Bridget TIMMINS, may be the person listed as a domestic in the 1860 Census of Norwalk in the home of Charles and Ruth MILLER (Chas. Was listed as a master builder). I have a good bit of information on the TIMMINS family (including some from the Co. Cavan, Ireland research center). I'd be happy to share, particularly would like to find descendants of Luke, Patrick or Bridget.

I have a Los Angeles request. I have been unable to locate the death records of my great grandmother. Her name was Mary Ellis MORSE (SMITH) (DIVER). She was in the 1920 Los Angeles census, living with her daughter, Ellen SMITH KIRSCHGESSNER and Ellen's two children Ronald Guy KIRSCHGESSNER and Mary KIRSCHGESSNER. I have heard that the children died before adulthood. I know that Ellen eventually remarried Ben FINE and died in the 1970s. Since Ellen is buried in Rose Hills Memorial Park, I am assuming that her mother and children are there, too. Mary DIVER's son by her second marriage produced a son, Guy DIVER. The next time you have access to the census, would you look in the 1930 index for Mary DIVER, Ellen, Ronald (Guy), and Mary KIRSCHGESSNER? The family story was that he was a gun runner and was killed by a Mexican general for sleeping with the general's wife. (I actually have a copy of his business card - since he was in the car seat cover business, he covered over the guns and drove them across the border!) I'm curious if he might be buried in CA, also. No one seems to remember when he died. (Cemetery records are not available on line).

Ken Shute Look Up Results - Happy to hear you found a volunteer willing to take a picture of the gravestone of Lemuel RAYMOND in Peru Center (School House) Cemetery, Peru Twp, Huron County, Ohio. That should make a nice addition to your ancestral picture album. Have you checked the IGI records for Lemuel RAYMOND? I thought I'd check the online web site for IGI/ancestral records for this name and found what appears to be your Lemuel, with forebears going back to a George RAYMOND, b. about 1512, of Braintree, Essex, England. If you haven't, go to web site www.familysearch.org. Fill in Lemuel (for first name) and RAYMOND (for last name) and click on "Search." This will bring up a list of 50 matches. Nr. 4 on the list is a Lemuel RAYMOND, born 5 Aug 1859, Richmond, Middlesex, Conn. He died 18 May 1829, the same date as your Lemuel. His parents are given as Daniel RAYMOND and Elizabeth BLACKMER. His wife is Hannah UNDERWOOD, born about 1763, Richmond, Middlesex, Conn. These are clickable names. By repeated clicking on the Father's name in each case, you can go back to George RAYMOND, born about 1512, Braintree, Essex, England. Some of the other entries appear to be the same individual, but with a variation on the birthplace. Nr. 27 gives the birthplace as Stockbridge, Berkshire, Mass. Nr. 31 gives the birthplace as Sharon, Brockton, Mass. Of some possible interest, Nr. 30 gives the birth year (only) of 1759, with the birthplace of Sharon, Litchfield, Conn. The parents were named as Daniel RAYMOND and Elizabeth DOTY. (DOTY was also the name of one of the Mayflower passengers. Don't know if this could relate to your Lemuel, but I though it was interesting that the parents here had the same first names as in Nr. 4 on the list.)

My g-grandfather, Perry Legrand BAKER was born in Huron County, OH in 1847. His pension papers list his mother and father as A.A. and Makala BAKER. An 1870 census in Indiana also lists Perry's parents as A.A. and Makala. That census also indicates that Perry's parents probably married in about 1837-1839. I do not know what the A.A. stands for. The Family History Center's AIS Index shows the following three "A" Baker names as living in Huron County in 1850. Abajiah (or Abajah) in Ripley Twp, Abraham in Hartland Twp, and Adison in Fairfield Twp. Could you check your Plat Book of 1845 for that name? The second request would be to look up A.A. and Makala in the Huron County, Ohio marriage record book.
