Nathan STRONG, who in 1825 sold a farm in Lyme Township, Huron County, to Samuel BEMISS, may have been that Nathan STRONG whose daughter Sally STRONG married Parker COOPER, 22 Oct 1811, location uncertain. Can you help me verify or disprove this? The Nathan STRONG I am seeking was born 30 Jan 1768, in Southbury, Connecticut, and married Phoebe WAKELEY about 1790 in Southbury. They had a daughter Sally, 16 Sep 1791, and moved to Clinton, Oneida County, New York, about 1805. My second pursuit is the WINTER[S] surname in Huron County, Ohio. There is a possible connection with Benjamin WINTER, cigar-maker, who was enumerated in the 1860 Census of Greenup County, Kentucky. Related to this search is my interest in tobacco growing and tobacco manufacturing in Huron County in the nineteenth century.

I'd be interested in exchanging information with any BEMIS researchers, especially any who have traced ancestors back through NY State. I have in my records one Bemis SCOTT, born in NY, probably in Washington Co NY, circa 1828 or 1829, a son of Hosea & Sarah (aka Sally, maiden name unknown) SCOTT. This family group resided in Whitehall, Washington County NY in 1830, and moved to Bedford, Cuyahoga Co. OH before 1840. Bemis SCOTT last appeared there as a blacksmith in Hosea's household in the 1850 census. Seems to me like BEMIS *might* plausibly have been his mother Sarah 'Sally' SCOTT's maiden name.

In the Huron County, Ohio Marriages there is an Ezra A. Sprague who married a Betsy Baker on November 5, 1829. I was wondering if anyone has information on these two people? I am looking for an Ezra Sprague and a Susan Baker in that time period. I know that sometime people went by different names. My grandmother did. If anyone has a 1830 census book on Huron, would they please look these two people up. Also if they had any children.

My g grandfather James H. COOK is listed in the 1880 Bremer Co., Iowa US census as being 40 years old born in Ohio. He married Velora BRYANT dau. of Ansel D. BRYANT and Lydia VINING of Huron Co., Ohio. I've searched the 1850 Huron Co., US census until I can't hardly see any more. The only James H. COOK that I've come across is 13 years old instead of 10 years old. Here is the COOK family that has James H. COOK in it. If anyone knows this family and can help me either prove or disprove that this is my James H. COOK, I would greatly appreciate it. Huron Co., Ohio Greenfield Twp. 1850 Alfred COOK age 46 Wagon Master born in Conn. Amanda age 46 born in N.Y. William B. age 20 born in Ohio John D. age 18 Painter born in Ohio Charles L. age 16 Farmer born in Ohio George L. age 14 born in Ohio James H. age 13 born in Ohio Mary age 9 born in Ohio Frank age 6 born in Ohio Agusta age 4 born in Ohio A??? age 2 born in Ohio this is a female child, the name is hard to read. My g grandparents had sons named William B., Ernest C., Freddie A., Charles H. and James Clarence COOK. One daughter that I know of is Carrie E. This could be a coincidence that my g grandparents named one of their sons, William B., exactly the same as one of the sons of Alfred COOK in above census, and that they also had a son named Charles. I've been looking for information about this part of the family for years. My father never knew his grandparents because they died before he was born. The same thing happened to my as far as my grandfather James Clarence COOK was concerned. I never knew him because he died before I was born. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have, from the 1850 Federal Census for OH, Huron County, Peru Township, the following: Taken by census taker A RAYMOND or RAYMONDS? on 25 Sep 1850 dwelling # 1794, family # 1834 Wyatt COOK, age 56, Male, farmer, born Vermont. Sophia COOK , age 48, female, born NY. [children of Wyatt and Sophia omitted for brevity ]. Mehitable SMITH, age 85, female, born Mass. Anybody have any suggestions as to who this Mehitable SMITH might be? I'm fairly sure that she is not from Wyatt COOK's side of the family, & I am currently leaning towards the theory that she is a relative of Sophia's. Yet about all I know of Sophia COOK is that her maiden name was ROOT, and that she is buried in the Greenfield Twp Cemetery at Stebuen OH. I currently lack information on her parents or siblings.
