My GGGrandfather Peter OTT was born on May 26, 1836 and died on January 5, 1890 according to his cemetary inscription. According to various city directories he lived on Oak Street and ran the Norwalk Brewery (later the Ott Brewery). I was passing through Norwalk last week and checked the ledger entry for his death (not really death certificate), and it said he was born in Peru, but did not give his parents names (common for nonchildren). Birth certificates don't go back that far. He is listed in the 1860 census as living with a brewer named Joel BISHOP (possibly where he got his brewery start) and in 1870 on Oak Street. An Augustus Ott (probably his brother) is listed with him. However, the only listing for an Ott in the Huron county 1850 census is a Michael OTT, age 24, a laborer living with the Heston family. I checked the Peru Township pages of the 1850 census line by line and did not find him either with parents or adopted parents. I am stumped. Any information about his parents or siblings (or anything else) would be appreciated.

There are several early families of OTT in the area of Peru today as well as in the mid 1800s. Peru can be misleading as a place. There is today a village/cross roads called Peru within Peru Twp. In the 1800s the village was called Macksville. There is the parish of St Alphonsus that is also called called the Settlement or the Peru parish. It is on the edge of the Twp of Peru and Bronson Twp as is the Village of Peru. So check both Peru and Bronson Twp. I know that in the 1860 - 1870 that a Lawrence OTT bought my ancestors property on Remley Rd in Peru Twp.

Johann Matthaeus ALBRECHT (b 3 Jan 1816 in Scheppach, Wuerttemberg, Germany), emigrated to North America in March 1828 with father Georg Andreas ALBRECHT (b 6 Feb 1782 in Wiesendorf, Wuerttemberg) and siblings Johann Friedrich (b 20 Jan 1807 in Scheppach), Rosina Catharine (b 1 Apr 1812 in Scheppach), and Christina Catharine (b 16 Dec 1814 in Scheppach). The above information is from Vol Six of The Wuerttemberg Emigration Index by Trudy Schenk and Ruth Froelke. The birthdates are from FHL film of Familienbuch records of Scheppach. --John Matthias ALBRIGHT, married Catharine Rook on 10 Oct 1841 in Richland Co., Ohio. He was enumerated in both the 1850 and 1860 Federal Census in New Haven Twp, Huron Co, Ohio. Died 10 or 17 Nov 1861 and was buried in the Old Cemetery, New Haven Twp., Huron Co. Tombstone reads John M. Albright/Died/ Nov 1? 1861/AGED/45y 10m & 7d. I visited the cemetery, but couldn't tell whether death date was the 10th or 17th. And that's the only evidence I have of his birth date. If death was 10 Nov 1861, then he was born 3 Jan 1816 and the coincidence is just too great for it not to be the same person! - Also, his sons carried on the names of Frederich, Andrew and George; daughters were Rosa and Catharine. On the other hand, where was he between 1828 when he emigrated with his family and the time he first appears in Ohio records with his marriage in 1841? My GreatGrandfather Amos ALBRIGHT (b 11 Feb 1854) was orphaned at the age of 7 and was apprenticed to a local farmer (as were his siblings). If there were aunts or an uncle living somewhere, wouldn't they have tried to take them in? Amos's siblings: William Jacob (b 28 Feb 1841), Frederich Truman (b 28 Oct 1843), John Andrew (b 4 April 1846), Samuel Henry (b 1 Jul 1851), Catharine Elizabeth (b13 Mar 1856), Anna Maria (b 20 May 1858).

In checking my ancestors in the Probate Court records of Hillsdale Co., MI, I found that my g-greatgrnadfather Solomon RIBLET from Huron Co., OH had died while visiting his son Samuel at Litchfield, MI in (1835-45). I live in FL, now, so can't check out the exact date of Solomon's death, but do remember it was before Litchfield got a RR, & I seem to remember the RR came in 1839, but am not certain. Another clue may be the maiden name of my g-greatgrandmother; KEIPER, KEIBER, KEEFER, a German name which seemed to have as many spellings as the Yankee mind could conceive. The RIBLET/KEIPER clan were trilingual; French, German & English, of these German seemed dominate. So, if there was a German settlement in Huron Co. back there between the end of the War of 1812 & 1835, they may have settled in that.

My great grandfather and great grandmother KEEFER, Homer and Jessie had a male child that died either in infancy or when quite young. My grandfather Willis was born 5-30-1888, and his sister Loa was born in 1891. I think the other child would have been born sometime around then. These births were all in Huron County. Any help I can get will be appreciated.

My ancestor, Jerome TIMMINS and his wife, Mary O'RILEY Timmins came from Co. Cavan Ireland about 1850. He entered the port of Boston and somehow landed in Norwalk. He supposedly took a job with the City of Norwalk, although he is listed in the 1860 Huron Co. census as a farmer. I cannot find him in the 1850 Census. Jerome was naturalized in November of 1856. There were several children in the family: James, Patrick, Thomas, (all born in Ireland), and John, Maryann, Bridget (my g-g-grandmother) and Catherine (twins), Francis and Bernard. In the early 1860s most of the family moved to Deerfield (Lenawee Co.) Michigan. I'd like to hear from anyone who might wish to share information. My guess is that the family was a part of the Irish Catholic parish of that time. Thanks.

I am looking for any information concerning a Rev. JEWETT. I have reference to him as giving the sermon on 22 Sept 1861 at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Monroeville, Huron Co., Ohio. My reference to Rev. JEWETT was from a Civil War diary that has been transcribed. The young fellow that wrote the diary was from Williams County, Ohio, and told of his travels and the battles throughout the war. It describes their stop in Monroeville, OH, on their way to the war. I have a photo in an old family photo album of a Rev. Daniel JEWETT. Don't know if this might be the same person. Any information at all would be very helpful.

I know that my family, together with at least two other families (including very small children) migrated from Cayuga Co., NY, to Huron Co., OH, in the winter of 1814-15. I don't know what roads they took, though, but the obituary of one of the children on that trip mentions that Ohio was their original destination; they stayed in NY because of the War of 1812 and problems with the Indians along the way and especially in Ohio. When they arrived, they stayed the winter with Capt. Charles PARKER, probably at Parker's Blockhouse. In the immediate years after arriving they made several trips back to NY and further east (like they were going to the Mall!).

MI by 1850 Census. Then my Joseph left and went into Tn where he married #2 wife Lillie PRATT. Still have not found out what happend to wife #1 or their missing daughter . My grandmother said she had a half sister so Joseph and #1 wife must have had a dau. before 1883. Just can't find her.
