[1] “1800” had been carved in the Date Stone in the wall of the Church.  Why was Derryvalley Presbyterian Church built?  The Rev. James Morell was a candidate for First Ballybay Presbyterian Church against a Mr. McCauly, a licentiate.  In that day, those who made the largest contributions were permitted to choose the minister though they were often a small minority.  Rev. James Morell was chosen by such a minority.  The majority left and built Derryvalley Church (Meetinghouse) in 1800 and had Mr. McCauly ordained as their minister.

[2] Copied by Edward P. Breakey from the Baptismal Register, Derryvalley Congregation, the Rev. David Bell, Minister.  This Register of Baptisms is presently, May 14, 1968, in the Library of the Presbyterian Historical Society, Church House, Fisherwick Place, Belfast, North (sic) Ireland.

[3] The Rev. David Bell’s records are regrettably incomplete.

[4] It is assumed the rev. David Bell was the Officiating Minister where none was recorded.

[5] Taken from the Session Book which is presently, May 14, 1868, in the Library of the Presbyterian Historical Society, Church House, Fisherwick Place, Belfast, North (sic) Ireland.
