A. R. Hogue: Part Two, Personal Sketches, p. 79

Joshua Owen

Joshua Owen was the son of Bailey Owen, who was a pioneer settler on the Fast Fork, below Roatland, where Joshua was born, and spent his long and useful life. He married a daughter of John Beaty, another pioneer. He was a Justice of the Peace for many years. It is doubtful if anyone ever held the office longer, or performed a greater number of marriage ceremonies, than he did. He also tried the celebrated witchcraft case,.an account of which has already been given.

He and his wife lie buried in the old Bowden cemetery, near Dr. Chism's.
