Charles Webster Beaty and Willie Lula MeltonCharles Webster Beaty was born August 19, 1893 in Coryell County. He was the eleventh of twelve children born to Joseph Wood Beaty and Mary Jane Crabtree Beaty.

Willie Lula Melton was born May 26, 1899 in Coryell County. She was the 9th of eleven children born to Jerry and Lizzie Melton.

Charlie and Willie were united in marriage on February 1, 1918. It was a cold day with the ground covered in snow. They went to Oglesby to the home of Samuel Tilden Kingslow, the justice of the peace, who came out to the car and married them.

Five months after they were married, the army called him to duty. He served on the front line during World War I. In July 1918 he was sent to San Antonio, TX, then to New York to be shipped overseas. While he was in New York, his mother passed away, but the family did not know where he was to let him know. He served in the Co. E 168th Inl. 42nd. Rainbow Div. until he was discharged May 17, 1919.

After returning from the war, he and his wife farmed in the Oglesby-Pecan Grove area. They had eight children. Joe Manuel, born 1-7-21; Freda Louise (Holly), born 9-23-22; C. W., born 10-4-24; Dorothy Elizabeth (Cox), born 5-16-31; Eloise (Wilson), born 11-9-33; Mildred Marie (Towler), born 1-26-35; W.L. born 7-26-37; and Janice Dean (McCorkle), born 11-12-39.

Charlie passed away in Gatesville on March 16, 1961 at the age of 67 years and 7 months. He was buried at the Davidson Cemetery. Willie, at the age of 85 years, now lives in McGregor by herself. They have 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
