Elizabeth "Betsy" Allen was the daughter of Darling Allen and Susan Wallis (Wallace) Allen. She was born June 15, 1811, died June 4, 1896, and is buried in New Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Her husband, James "Ross" Stewart, Sr. was born April 21, 1803, died July 4, 1860 and is buried in New Sterling ARP Church Cemetery. Ross Stewart was the son of Ralph Stewart and Rebecca Johnson Stewart. James Ross Stewart's grandparents are John Stewart and Margaret Potts Stewart, daughter of Moses and Jane McKee Potts. John and Margaret Stewart lived on Fourth Creek, Iredell County; he fought in the Revolutionary war. Betsy Allen and J. Ross Stewart are my great-grandparents.

The children of Darling and Susan Wallis Allen, and Betsy Allen Stewart's siblings, all born in Iredell County, are Tabitha Allen, born about 1809, married John W. Vickery. Mahalia Allen born February 11, 1810, died February 8, 1902, married Ebenezer Massey. Jeptha Allen, born about 1814, died May 1, 1847, married Martha Miller Moore. John Allen, born 1817, married Malinda (maiden name unknown). William Wallace Allen, born about 1825, died in the Civil War, married Agnes Moore, daughter of Alexander and Nancey Moore. Benton Carlton Allen, born about 1827, died in the Civil War, married Joanne (maiden name unknown), Susan R. Allen, born about 1831, was engaged to marry a young man who was killed in the Civil War. She never married. Nancy C. Allen, born about 1833, married a Mr. Smith. She was the last child born to Darling Allen and Susan Wallis Allen.

Betsy Allen and J. Ross Stewart's children are Closen Stewart born about 1830, married Martha C. Stewart. William Wallace Stewart, born April 23, 1831, married Sarah Glementine Stikeleather. Terzah Mahalia "Haley" Stewart, born October 31, 1834, married Frederick Riley Shook. Delia Tabitha Stewart, born July 28, 1839, married Franklin J. Alexander. Jeptha P. Stewart, born October 15, 1836, married Margaret Mahaley Frye. Franklin Stewart born about 1840, married Martha Stikeleather, and they moved to Indiana. John Stewart, born about 1842, never married and was killed in the Civil War. Benjamin Stewart, born November 5, 1845, married Eliza Moose. James Ross Stewart, Jr., born August 15, 1849, married Esther Lucinda Harris. David Madarlin Stewart, born February 6, 1851, married Sally Jane Harris. They are my grandparents. Their children's names appear in the family story of Plott/Harris/Stewart. Noah Stewart, born February 12, 1853, married Elizabeth Caroline Alexander. After her death he married Effie Walters. Susannah R. Stewart, born about 1855, died on February 15, 1859, is buried in New Sterling ARP Church cemetery in the grave next to her father, James Ross Stewart. All of Elizabeth "Betsy" Allen and James Ross Stewart's children were born in Iredell County.
