JAMES BRYANT1
of New Market, NH
James is said to have come from England and settled on Great
Island, in Portsmouth Harbor, NH in 1710. In 1704, he was a
mariner and shipped under Capt. Richard Waterhouse for England, was
taken prisoner by a Spanish privateer, and spent over 2 years in
Bilbora as a pledge for the ship's ransom.
In 1712, his wife Honor is stated to be out scrubbing. About
1718, he purchased a house in New Castle, NH. Was a
fisherman at this time. In 1764, Honor, still in New Castle,
gives to her son, Walter, the family estate for his keeping her for the
past 30 years.
