Thomas Monaghan and Catherine Blaney

Catherine Blaney2 Blaney (Thomas1, DanielA) was born in St-Sylvestre, Lotbinière Co. Québec on 19 January 1844 [1] and died in 1919 at the age of 75. She is buried in the church cemetery at St-Sylvestre. [2]

Catherine married Thomas Monaghan on 6 October 1863 in St-Sylvestre. Thomas was born in 1835, the son of John Monaghan and Catherine McGuire. The bride was 19, the groom 28. [3] Thomas died at the age of 79 in 1914 and he too is buried in the St-Sylvestre churchyard. [4]

Thomas Monaghan and Catherine Blaney had the following children:

26 i. Thomas John Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 5 March 1864. He was baptized two days later; John Monaghan, probably Thomas's brother, and Bridget Blaney, probably Catherine's aunt, were the sponsors. [5]
27 ii. Catherine Monaghan was born in Québec c. 1866. [6]
28 iii. Joseph William Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 16 July 1867. He was baptized two days later and William Monaghan, Thomas's brother, and Catherine Monaghan served as godparents. [7]
29 iv. Patrick Daniel Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 29 January 1869. [8]
30 v. James Henry Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 22 December 1870. He was baptized the same day and Thomas's brother James Monaghan and Ellen Monaghan were his godparents. [9]
31 vi. Michael Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 16 July 1872. He was baptized the same day and his mother's brother-in-law, Michael Monaghan, and Alice Monaghan were the sponors. Michael married Mary Tirschlake on 28 September 1909 in Lancaster, Coos Co. NH. [10]
32 vii. Elizabeth Ann Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 29 March 1874. [11] She died on 22 February 1893 at the age of 18 and is buried in St-Sylvestre. [12]
33 viii. Theresa Marcella Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 15 March 1876. She was baptized the next day. [13]
34 ix. Francis Robert Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 21 February 1878. Catherine Monaghan was his godmother. [14]
35 x. Charles Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 24 Decmber 1879. He was baptized on Christmas day; his sponsors were Patrick McGuire and aunt Margaret Blaney. [15]Charles died on 29 March 1932 and is buried in the St-Sylvestre churchyard. [16]
36 xi. Mary Johannah Monaghan was born in St-Sylvestre on 7 February 1882. She was baptized three days later; Mary Jane Monaghan was godmother. [17] She married John Mullen in St-Sylvestre on 28 June 1911. John was the son of John Mullen and Marie Dogherty. [18]
