Rose Blaney and Owen McGoldrick

Rose2 Blaney (Thomas1, DanielA) was born in Canada, according the 1851 and 1861 Canadian censuses. [1] No record of her baptism, however, has been found in Rivière-du-Loup where the Blaneys were apparently living at the time, although there is a baptismal record for younger sister Bridget, born there on 30 April 1833. [2] Her headstone in Lancaster, Coos Co. NH gives her birthdate as 25 June 1832, but this would place Bridget's birth a mere ten months after Rose's, an unlikely event. [3] The 1851 census gave her age as 21, suggesting a birth year of 1830, a more likely date. [4]

Rose married Owen McGoldrick on 20 September 1853 in St-Sylvestre, Lotbinière Co. Québec. John Monaghan and John Flanagan, cousins of the groom, were witnesses. The bride and groom were both at least 21 years of age. Owen was a farmer in St-Sylvester, the son of Thomas McGoldrick and Mary McCauley, also residents of St-Sylvestre.[5] He was born in Ireland c. 1830, according to the 1861 census. [6]

At some point the family, like so many from the region, emigrated to New Hampshire. They settled in Lancaster, Coos County where Owen and Rose are buried in Calvary Cemetery. Owen died on 23 February 1905 at the age of 75, and Rose died twelve years later on 19 September 1917 at the age of 85. [7]

Owen McGoldrick and Rose Blaney had the following children:

i. Thomas McGoldrick was born 25 June 1854 in St-Sylvestre. He was baptized two days later; his maternal aunt, Eliza Blaney, was his godmother. His godfather was Francis McGee.[8] Thomas is buried in the McGoldrick plot in Calvary Cemetery in Lancaster, Coos Co. NH. [9]
ii. Mary McGoldrick was born on 20 March 1856, also in St-Sylvestre. She was baptized the same day and her paternal grandparents, Thomas McGoldrick and Mary McCauley, were the sponsors. [10]
iii. A daughter born in New Hampshire c. 1862.
iv. Susan McGoldrick was born in New Hampshire c. 1864. She is also buried in the McGoldrick plot in Calvary Cemetery.[12]
