The first record of a Blaney in Qu�bec found so far is that of the marriage of "Jean" (John) Blaney, son of Jean Blaney of Ireland and Marie Cunningham, to Ang�lique Desnoyers in St-Andre, Kamouraska on 30 April 1816. [1]
John Blaney and Angélique Desnoyers had the following children:
| 2 | i. | Marie Marguerite Blaney was born in 1814, 23 months before the marriage of her parents. She was listed as present at their wedding. She married Thomas Johnston on 22 August 1837 in Kamouraska. [8] | ||
| 3 | ii. | John Blaney was born in St-André on 20 January 1817 and baptized the following day. [9] He was living in the parish of St-Roch in Québec City, working as a shoemaker like his father, when he died at the Hôtel Dieu de Québec on the morning of 8 March 1842. He was buried there the next day. [10] Although the burial record gives his age as 28, no record has been found for a John Blaney baptized c. 1812-14, nor is a son mentioned at the marriage of John's parents in 1816, although John's sister Marie Marguerite (born 1814) is mentioned as present at the wedding. The John who died in 1841 is very likely the same individual born in St-André in 1817. | ||
