Eugene L. Schuyler and Alma A. Whitman

Eugene L.3 Schuyler, (Caroline 2 McDonnell, Bridget1 Blaney, DanielA) was born in Missouri in October 1871, the son of Caroline McDonnell and George W. Schuyler. [1]

Eugene married Alma A. Whitman in 1901. [2] Eugene was about 29, his bride 20 years of age. Alma was born in Austin, Cass Co. MO on 2 January 1880, the daughter of George Fred Whitman and Lenora. George, a farmer, had immigrated from Bavaria in 1856, and Lenora, his second wife, was born in Illinois. [3]

Eugene was a hard worker, beginning to earn 25 cents a day when he was just 10 years of age. He saved his money and bought a hog, selling it at a profit. Around 1886, when he was fifteen, he took a job at Anthony's store in Austin, where he worked for seven years. Eugene's life showed the same wanderlust that affected so many of the McDonnells. Around 1893 he went to Oklahoma for several months, and then worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company, based in Osawatomie, KS, working as a painter. When he returned to Austin after six years, he married and settled down to work in the mercantile business, eventually working for Moon Brothers, a general merchandise store. [4] 1920 found him working in Herington, Dickinson Co, KS as a bookkeeper for the Ford Motor Company. [5] By 1930 he had found a new position as secreatary of the Chamber of Commerce in Lyson, Dickinson Co. [6]

Eugene was civic-minded, elected as a Democrat to two terms as township assessor in Austin. In 1914 he also became the postmaster, and served as superintendent of the Sunday School for the Methodist Episcopal Church. In addition, he was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. [7]

Alma died in Wellington, Sumner Co. KS in July 1967. [8] Eugene's date of death is unknown.
