Thompson/Thomson of Forks of Elkhorn Church

"Our grandmother always said that her folks
spelled their name "Thomson," never Thompson...."
William Thomson Baker, Sr.

An interesting notation by William E. Railey in the "History of Woodford County" KY. On pages 280 & 281, he speaks of the Waddy Thomson family. On page 282, he continues with Gen. David Thomson and makes this comment: "General David Thomson, of Scott County, spelled his name as did the Woodford County family of the name, being a full-blooded Scotchman, and I have been told by those who have seen members of both branches that there was a very striking resemblance between them. Both families married into the Major family, but neither side has been able to trace relationship if any exists."
