Prominent Retired Farmer of Saline
County Succumbs to Pneumonia
At his home two miles south of Slater, Pike M. Thomson,
aged 63 years, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, May 3, after three weeks'
illness of pneumonia. Mr. Thomson had been in poor health for
the past year, but was able to be about part of the time until
stricken with his fatal illness. The funeral took place at the
Baptist church at Slater and was conducted by the Rev. George
C. Monroe on Monday afternoon. The interment was in the Slater
Cemetery.
The deceased was born and reared in this county at the old Thomson
homestead where he died. His parents Pike M. Thomson, Sr, and
Elizabeth Goodwin Thomson moved from Virginia to Saline County
in an early day and settled on this historic country place long
before the town of Slater was located. One son, Price Thomson,
survives; also two brothers, Lucius L. and Lloyd G. Thomson and
three sisters, Mrs. Martha Saltonstall, Mrs. Elizabeth Richardson
and Mrs. Ruth Bush, all of whom live at Slater except the latter,
who is a resident of Marshall. The wife, who was a Miss Mary Timmons,
died a year ago.
NOTE: Mr. & Mrs. Pike Thomson, Sr., moved from Fayette Co., KY, to Saline Co., MO.
